David Wilcox: The Global Initiation
There is no question that we are experiencing a
worldwide economic crisis. We can now correctly call it Great Depression II, or
GDII. In hindsight, this appears to have started with the dot-com collapse of
2000. It has dramatically accelerated since the subsequent, larger collapse of
2008. It was announced this week that 35 percent of all Americans -- one out of
three adults -- are being called and harassed by bill collectors for debts. This
is concentrated most strongly in the Southern and Western states, with nearly
45 percent of people in the largest Texas
cities being pursued.
The controlled corporate media has been using the
Orwellian term 'recovery' to describe this accelerating crisis ever since the
real economy started plunging in 2000. The endless repetition of the term
"recovery" for the last 14 years, as if to say "Oh, we just need
to get through this next bit," is truly a sign of the criminal mentality
that is occurring. There can be no recovery until the existing perpetrators are
brought to justice, and their crimes are finally halted.
Every 20
years, Jupiter and Saturn conjoin in the heavens and mark the beginning of a
new cultural, political, and economic era. These alignments have historically
been described as “Grand Conjunctions” or “Royal Conjunctions.” Rob Hand's
article in the April-May, 2002 issue of The Mountain Astrologer described some
of the techniques of Islamic astrologers in the Middle Ages as well as still
earlier theories from the ancient world. As Rob pointed out, early astrologers
placed great emphasis on the conjunctions of the planets, especially Jupiter
and Saturn as keys to the world scene. While mundane charts are relevant to all
of earth, the houses and especially the
major angles clarify the way that different regions are likely to handle the
issues of life.
Shown here
is the chart for the last Jupiter-Saturn conjunction of May 2000 drawn for Washington , DC .
Notice it is extremely prominent for the place since it conjoins the MC.
The
conjunction[22ta43] took place in
tropical Taurus – the sign most associated with material wealth also with greed
and possessivenes. Here we find the
stars Botein, delta Aries [20ta51], Rana, delta Eridanus [20ta52] ; delta Caelum [20ta]; Zaurak , gamma Eridanus
[23ta52] and Capulus h Persei [24ta52]. Diana Rosenberg writing about stars in this
area states,
The danger here is that they may turn their backs
on idealism, ethics and morality and be tempted into a deeper sinister hedonism,
greed and corruption. While some are activists for any cause that they feel
represents the good; sadly the more extreme and unstable among them feel they
have a right to utterly destroy any individuals, group or causes they perceive
as enemies or as evil. Capulus, a nebulous double cluster in Perseus’ sword
hilt has been associated with blindness or defective sight. Here it more likely
represents the spiritual blindness that often fails to realize that we have a
discerning, purifying power to triumph over melancholy and evil (sword) that is
in our hands (hilt). To the Taoists, swords represented penetrating insight and
victory over ignorance. It is the dharma of these people to emerge from
isolation, fear, degradation, sorrow and guilt into the light of the hero’s
joyous courage [1].
If we
combine the foregoing with Nick Fiorenza’s
[2] description of these stars we begin to understand not only why the financial troubles
(Jupiter-Saturn) brought about by the banks (Taurus) and the government (10th
house) have been so difficult for the American people but also why there is
hope that they may turn a corner and take responsibility into their own hands
Botein, although meaning the belly (of the Ram)
actually marks the hind foot. Botein can indicate those either lost and
stranded, (an apt description for the American people!) or simply left
behind (the lost or following sheep), and thus can create a sense of
frustration; but this is also a place of an energetic potential about to erupt.
Rana of Eridanus in the southern heavens,
conjoining Botein, marks another stopping point along the river of life and
articulates the need for physical regeneration in preparation for what is yet
to come, a place to hone one's self in a sense. Nearby Zaurak of Eridanus, just
prior to the Taurian cusp, in late sidereal Aries, is a point of pause along
the initiatory river of life (also
called “The River of Many Tears” by Aratus) where we must hold and trust our
own inner light because the path immediately ahead is not entirely visible.
The stars of Caelum, the sculptor’s chisel suggest
that the sculpting of our lives is a creative process, chiseled away at a bit
at a time--as a sculptor chisels away the rock or marble to reveal the beauty
waiting to emerge. Epsilon of Eridanus, conjoining Delta Caelum, reveals a need
to create an opening or doorway; to make simple that which may seem difficult.
Their conjunction with nearby Ruchbah reveals the need to first relinquish any
attitudes that we deserve something (generally a status in life) that is
rightfully ours, in order for it to manifest--generally occurring with ease
after such surrender.
So what is
happening that is triggering the chart for the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction now? Notice that Saturn has been transiting opposite [22sc] the
conjunction degree of Jupiter-Saturn [22ta] since Feb 2014. After it stationed direct on July 20, it
will once pass over the IC [22sc] in exact opposition to the conjunction degree
in October 2014. In this area we have the stars Unukalhai, alpha Serpentis
[22sc04]; epsilon Librae [21sc21]; sigma Herculis [23sc14].
The defiant, daredevil nature of Hercules may lead
to unwise, careless, even reckless speculation (isn’t this exactly what the
Federal Reserve and US
government have done) and its comeuppance, with a possible loss of position
and/or reputation. The Scales of Libra are linked to the laws of karma, while
the cruel claws of the ancient Scorpion that preceded the scales (and the
overlay of tropical Scorpio) still clutch those who do not heed the laws of
karma. But the great Serpent of physician/shaman Ophiuchus offers a powerful
ability for self-renewal should people choose to reach for it [3].
This is what
appears to happening now [4][5][6].
Before we
end, it may interesting to note the Sabian symbols of Mercury [27ge37] and the
Sun [7ge37] in the chart of the
Jupiter-Saturn conjunction and recognize how relevant they are in our present
context.
Phase 88 (Gemini 28)
Through bankruptcy,
society gives to an overburdened individual the opportunity to begin again.
Keynote: A
release from unbearable pressures, freeing oneself for new tasks.
Phase 68 (Gemini 8)
Aroused strikers
surround a factory.
To
understand the meaning of this symbol Dane Rudhyar combines it with a process
unfolding from phase 66.
Phase 66 (Gemini 6°):Workmen
drilling for oil
Oil leads to wealth and power but also to
industrial unrest and violence. As man manages to rape the earth in order to
satisfy his greed and corner the material riches of the world conflicts and disruptive processes are
inevitably initiated. This leads to a revolt against privileges.

PS:
One final
point to note in the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction (in Taurus) chart is the square from Uranus (in Aquarius).
Incidentally the next conjunction will also be in Aquarius so that late Robert
P. Blaschke’s quote below acquires relevance in the present context:
In order to understand the arc of history between
2000 and 2020, astrologers can contemplate the square of Taurus
to Aquarius, signs in which the 2000 and 2020 Grand Conjunctions fall. This
square is indicative of the redistribution of wealth and assets. In an article
entitled “The Pluto in Leo Generation,” published in The Mountain Astrologer in
March 1993, I wrote:
“The evolutionary impulse of the redistribution of
wealth meets the entrenched establishments of banking and real estate. The
ideals of service to the collective meet the possessive stinginess of what is
mine and what is yours. Social and economic revolution, and the temporary
personal hardships necessary to achieve the lasting goals of equality, meet the
fear of change and the love of comfort, luxury and personal opulence. The
cutting edge of technology meets the challenge to market it so it may be of
practical service to humanity. What must be changed for the good of the
collective meets the needs of the individual’s security and his predictable
continuity in life.”
