John Kerry‘s persistence has paid off: Israeli and Palestinian negotiators will meet in Washington this evening to resume the long-dormant Middle East peace process. That’s no small accomplishment for a Secretary of State whose fixation with breaking the Israeli-Arab deadlock has produced snickers from some who say Kerry is chasing visions of a grand legacy down a dead-end alley.
But in the end, it’s not Kerry who
can broker a peace breakthrough — it’s Barack Obama. And the open question is
how much a President who felt burned by the peace process in his first term may
be willing to risk in the name of brokering a peace deal in his second.
The chart
for the Last Quarter Moon on 29 July at Washington
is very prominent since the luminaries are angular and form a sharp T-square
with Saturn on the Ascendant. Saturn also forms a Grand Trine with Jupiter and
Neptune.
The Last
Quarter Moon [6ta] creates an "inner need to initiate change" in the
lunar cycle.
This area [6ta] of the zodiak is predominately
about the Royal Family, created by King Cepheus, Queen Cassiopeia, and their
daughter the princess Andromeda, who is chained to the rocks and about to be
devoured by Cetus, the sea monster.
The stars
of the King and Queen often depict individuals in positions who are able to
aid, are affluent and have authority.
Caph, the
palm of Queen Cassiopeia's hand, holds a stern yet gentle and tender ability to
be a true guiding and stabilizing force. Caph provides an in-between or holding
place, and indicates the need for arbitration, meeting, and compromise in the
midst of the heat of battle. A truce, honoring perhaps even un-resolvable
differences, is required.
There are
several stars of King Cepheus which show him turning his face away from
Andromeda’s plight. But Alphirk of Cepheus is often indicative of a male in an authoritative
position offering aid that actually lifts us from the struggles of life, or
alters conditions in a way that otherwise would be impossible through one's own
effort alone. [1]
Saturn on
the Ascendant is conjunct the stars of the Virgin and the right hand of Bootis, the Herdsman, holding a staff or
club.
The
Herdsman’s staff of guardianship is also an instrument of discipline, mandating
correction and punishment of those who (in their eyes) stray from the fold. However,
the best among them are humanitarian and public spirited – the Herdsman as “good
shepherd” gives a potential for idealistic, inspiring leadership, and they are
often consistent efforts to organize collective activities that bring people
together, especially in projects that promote peace. The Herdsman excels at
communal projects and the Virgin eternally longs for peace, justice and
benevolence [2]
Saturn is
also part of a Grand Trine with Jupiter and Neptune.
This Grand
Trine inspires action to mobilize humanitarian-based ideals that will help to
establish new growth and balance in our personal relations and in our existing
societal structure. It impels us to mobilize action, especially areas of
commerce, communication, and in our daily lives, based on our responsibility to
do what is socially and morally right. It also invites the dissolution of
boundaries and segregations artificially imposed. Global events, where conflict and may arise (due to the
Uranus-Pluto square), can act as catalyst for more embracing and wide sweeping
action of this nature. [3]
Mars [10cn51]
which has recently joined Jupiter is conjunct the star Alhena [9cn18] Alhena
and Alzirr of Gemini are on the foot of Pollux of the Twins, Castor and Pollux.
The Twins are often shown fighting each other.
Alhena
indicates a milestone or a turning point has been reached or is to be
acknowledged. Alhena indicates the need to get off the fence of indecision, to
drop any hesitation, as the "time is at hand" to go forth anew. It
marks a time of commencement. Alhena can also manifest simply as a unique sign,
indicating an opportunity at hand. As the dividing star of the sidereal sign of
Gemini, Alhena invites a separation, a leaving, a departure, and a new
commencement, -to move on and engage in a new level of participation.
Behaviorally, Alhena impels leaving an older or less fulfilling way of
participation, one more associated with Castor, to one more spiritual, associated
with Pollux the ambassador [4].
