Colombia Chapecoense plane crash

The fairy-tale rise of Brazil's Chapecoense -- from small football club to national heroes -- has been cut tragically short, leaving the country mourning the loss of one of its most endearing sports teams. The plane carrying the Brazilian team to the biggest game in its history was en route Monday night from Bolivia to Colombia when it crashed in Rionegro, near Medellin, killing 71 people. Nov.29

To understand the astrology behind this tragic news, we will go back to the August 18 lunar eclipse chart drawn for Rionegro, the site of the accident. Here we notice that a Mars-Saturn conjunction is placed in the 5th house in hard aspect to Uranus in the 9th.  One of Ebertin’s key phrase for Mars-Saturn-Uranus is “a sudden accident”.
The 9th house is linked to long distance travels and by association to airlines and aircrafts [1]. Meanwhile the 5th house is  connected with all manner of enjoyment and r…

Astrology of the Italian referendum

Investors reeling from democratic shocks in Britain and the U.S. are worried about Italy’s future in Europe’s monetary union. They’re concerned that a defeat for Prime Minister Matteo Renzi in the Dec. 4 constitutional-reform referendum would undermine the nation’s fragile political stability. A defeat for Renzi, who proposed the vote and initially pledged to resign if the result didn’t go his way, could lead to early elections and a rise in support for the populist Five Star Movement. This party has pledged to carry out a referendum on whether Italy should stay in the euro area. Some investors are already predicting the end of the European Union, let alone the single currency.

"The horoscope for the Italian Republic is set for 10 June 1946. . . . On 2 June a referendum was held on the future of the monarchy which produced a majority in favour of abolition. The announ…

Aleppo Fully Liberated From Terrorists

The territory of east Aleppo where 90,000 residents live was liberated from terrorists on Tuesday, the Russian Defense Ministry said. Some 90,000 residents live in east Aleppo freed from militants, the Russian center for Syrian reconciliation said.  Nov. 29

The cardinal ingresses of the Sun have a traditional reputation as  important  mundane events. We are currently in the Libra Ingress quarter. A chart for the Ingress at Aleppo, Syria is shown here. Notice the Saturn-Neptune square straddling the meridian.  If we now progress the chart to November 29, the Saturn-Neptune-Mercury T-square is triggered with Saturn conjunct the descendant.

For the positive manifestation of Saturn-Neptune, Ebertin writes:
The methodical execution of plans, the slow attainment of success through intense activity and great  painstaking effort.
Neptune [10pi] is positioned in the Arabic lunar mansion Sadal-Akhbiyah.  According to the 11th – century astrologer Abenragel, the lunar mans…

World of viruses uncovered

Gula – the Great Doctoress

A groundbreaking study of the virosphere of the most populous animals -- those without backbones such as insects, spiders and worms and that live around our houses -- has uncovered 1445 viruses, revealing people have only scratched the surface of the world of viruses -- but it is likely that only a few cause disease.  The meta-genomics research, a collaboration between the University of Sydney and the Chinese Centre for Disease Control and Prevention in Beijing, was made possible by new technology that also provides a powerful new way to determine what pathogens cause human diseases. Nov. 23

The Total Solar Eclipse of March 9, 2016 was placed powerfully on the meridian at Sydney. It was also conjunct Neptune which was one arm of a Jupiter-Saturn-Neptune T-square.  About the stars conjunct Neptune, Diana Rosenberg writes:
When the ancient figure of Gula, “the Great Doctoress” is superimposed on the s…

Fidel Castro, Cuba's leader of revolution, dies

Cuba's former president Fidel Castro, one of the world's longest-serving and most iconic leaders, has died aged 90. His younger brother and successor as president Raul Castro announced the news on state television. Castro toppled the government in 1959, introducing a Communist revolution. He defied the US for decades, surviving many assassination plots. Nov.26

The national horoscope of Cuba is based on its independence from the US [1]. The table below gives the current solar arc progression of the MC [17vi].  Notice that it triggers the radix Pluto-Uranus opposition.  The essential meaning of Uranus-Pluto is summarized below.
When Uranus, the planet of freedom and independence, meets authoritarian, transformational Pluto in hard aspect the key words are: revolution, social activism, rebellion vs. authoritarianism,  reformation, freedom against oppression, and transformation.  These are times in history when it becomes apparen…

Ancient city is unearthed by archaeologists in Egypt

Archaeologists in Egypt have unearthed what they describe as a city that dates back more than 7,000 years, containing houses, tools, pottery and huge graves. It lies by the river Nile, close to the Temple of Seti the First in Abydos. Experts say the size of the 15 newly discovered graves indicates the high social standing of those buried. It is believed the city was home to important officials and tomb builders and would have flourished during early-era ancient Egyptian times. Nov.24

The discovery of the ancient city was first reported in the Egypt Independent on November 23, just three days after Neptune stationed to go direct. A chart for the event has Neptune on the IC or the 4th house cusp.
In a mundane chart, the 4th house [1] rules buildings, towns and cities including all that buried below the earth.  The 4th house through its association with the end of life  also rules tombs and graves.   But in addition Neptune [9pi] is pa…

Uranus-Eris and India’s demonetisation

The demonetisation of ₹500 and ₹1000 banknotes was a step taken by the Government of India on 8 November 2016, ceasing the usage of all ₹500 and ₹1000 banknotes of the Mahatma Gandhi Series as a form of legal tender in India from 9 November 2016.
The announcement was made by the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi in an unscheduled live televised address to the nation at 20:15 Indian Standard Time (IST) the same day. In the announcement, Modi declared circulation of all ₹500 and ₹1000 banknotes of the Mahatma Gandhi Series as invalid and announced the issuance of new ₹500 and ₹2000 banknotes of the Mahatma Gandhi New Series in exchange for the old banknotes.

India obtained  its independence from British rule on August 15, 1947 at  0:00 hrs. A chart drawn for this data at Delhi is  considered the mundane horoscope of India. Shown here is current solar return for India. Of interest here is the Uranus-Eris co…

A parasite is a culprit in sadomasochistic longings

Sadomasochism has long intrigued psychologists, who have proposed a variety of theories to explain why some people are sexually attracted to pain or humiliation. Included among them: a desire for power, stress relief or the rush of endorphin release. A new study explores a different possibility — that some people might develop a preference for sadomasochism after becoming infected with a common parasite called Toxoplasma gondii. Infection with the single-celled microbe is known to make rodents less fearful of — and even attracted to — cats, where the parasite needs to land in order to reproduce. And while the new study found only a small effect of toxoplasmosis on sexual preferences, primarily in men, the findings draw attention to emerging, if conflicting evidence about how a prevalent parasite affects human health and behavior, says lead author Jaroslav Flegr, an evolutionary biologist at Charles University in Prague.…

Japan Earthquake

A 7.4 magnitude earthquake off Japan's Fukushima and Miyagi prefectures has sparked tsunami waves of more than 1m. The quake struck at about 06:00 local time (21:00 GMT Monday), the Japan Meteorological Agency said. Residents were told to seek higher ground immediately, with warnings of waves of up to 3m. There were reports of minor injuries and damage. Nov. 21
Earthquakes are found to be associated with eclipses and with important planetary conjunctions and oppositions. An eclipse is always liable to cause seismic disturbances especially if it falls very close to the line of the horizon or of the meridian [1].  In addition, research has established that eclipses can influence events well after their actual occurrence.  H.S. Green mentions that eclipse, ingress and other mundane charts when progressed to  the date of an event that they influence will bring important configurations to the angles.

Shown here is the chart for the Appulse L…

Train Derailment in India Kills More Than 100

Fourteen coaches of an Indian train derailed early Sunday, killing at least 108 people in one of the worst rail accidents here in recent years, the police said. At least 75 others were admitted to hospitals, many of them with head injuries and fractures, and the death toll was likely to rise, said Rahul Srivastav, a spokesman for the police in Uttar Pradesh State, where the derailment took place. The accident occurred at 3 a.m. about a mile from the Pukhrayan railway station, about 40 miles southwest of the northern city of Kanpur, on a train bound for Patna, the capital of Bihar State. Nov. 20

Classical mundane astrology has a  rich history, and we modern astrologers would be wise to integrate more of its lessons.  One of the tools used by mundane astrologers is the cardinal ingress chart of the Sun, both tropical as well as sidereal. The word ingress comes from the Latin ingressus, to 'go in' or 'enter…

Astrology of the New Zealand earthquake

A powerful earthquake has struck New Zealand's South Island. The US Geological Survey said the magnitude-7.8 quake hit just after midnight (11:02 GMT on Sunday), some 95km (59 miles) from Christchurch. A tsunami arrived in the north-eastern coast about two hours later. Residents were warned to head inland or for higher ground along the entire coast.  Nov.13
In a previous post on the Italy earthquake [1] we had shown it to be a consequence of the March 9, solar eclipse. The following extract from that post is reproduced here.

The eclipse was part of a powerful T-square containing Jupiter-Saturn-Neptune.  About this eclipse Nick Fiorenza wrote:
Seismic Alert: This sustained T-square planetary configuration can create exceptionally strong geophysical and physiological resonances, especially when triggered by lunar aspects. The solar eclipse not only occurs in the midst of significant planetary aspects, but also occurs very close to the Lunar …

Astrology of the US Presidential election

Readers are urged to go through two earlier posts [1][2] on the US Presidential elections. Here we present a further confirmation of how the stars are pushing for a Trump victory.
The year of the US Presidential election has been  dominated by the waning Saturn-Neptune square. About this square and its seed conjunction in 1989, Nick Fiorenza wrote:
In the sociopolitical arena, Saturn-Neptune cycles are about the ebb and flow of more conservative, controlling and authoritarian ideals, although this specific cycle was also influenced by the Saturn-Uranus synthesis as well, adding a rebellious progressive element to create change in conservative currents and authoritarian political orders.
The July 18, 1989 Saturn-Neptune synod occurred in mid sidereal Sagittarius. This Sagittarian influence upon the Saturn-Neptune synod brought inspiration to elevate our ideologies and the forms of their expression to align with a greater truth, one supporting greater personal freedom. The historical, …

Why Economists Are To Blame For Today’s Problems

We are experiencing deep economic problems and it is the fault of the economics discipline. Their macro theories suck. But, there is no mechanism forcing it to alter its models when they don’t appear to work. This is so because economists basically write for each other in a language only they understand and their jobs depend on impressing a limited number of journal editors and referees, not correcting real-world problems. The academic inbreeding that has resulted has led to dysfunctional theories and, despite the fact that there were economists who accurately forecast the Financial Crisis, because their work is incompatible with what is published in “good” journals it has been all but ignored. Economics is broken and there is no internal incentive to fix it.  Nov. 3

'Lost nuke' discovered off Canada coast

The Canadian navy will be heading to the coast of British Columbia to investigate claims that a diver may have come across “the lost nuke” – a Mark IV bomb that went missing after an American B-36 bomber crashed in the region during the cold war. Diver Sean Smyrichinsky was wrapping up a day of diving near Haida Gwaii, an archipelago 80km west of the coast of British Columbia, when he stumbled across what may be the remains of the world’s first known “broken arrow” – the code name for accidents involving American nuclear weapons. Nov. 4

This event can be best understood if we begin with the chart for the September 1 solar eclipse drawn fot Haida Gwaii.  Notice that the eclipse along with its Mars-Saturn-Neptune T-square straddles the meridian and is therefore very significant for the place. Here Saturn [10sa] is the conjunct the star Antares [10sa] which is linked to what has come to known as the “Nucle…

The Power Of Nullification To Counteract Government Tyranny

How do you balance the scales of justice at a time when Americans are being tasered, tear-gassed, pepper-sprayed, hit with batons, shot with rubber bullets and real bullets, blasted with sound cannons, detained in cages and kennels, sicced by police dogs, arrested and jailed for challenging the government’s excesses, abuses and power-grabs? Politics won’t fix a system that is broken beyond repair. No matter who sits in the White House, the shadow government will continue to call the shots behind the scenes.

The news commentary goes on to refer to the acquittal of  the Bundy brothers on Thursday, Oct. 27.  They had been charged  with  conspiracy to  takeover of a federally owned wildlife sanctuary in Oregon last winter. The surprise acquittals of all seven defendants in Federal District Court were a blow to government prosecutors, who had argued that the Bundys and five of their followers used force and threats of violence to occupy the reserve. But the jury appea…
