Columba, the Dove of Peace, brings truce to Syria

Columba – the Dove of Peace

The UN Security Council has discussed a draft resolution on ridding Syria of chemical weapons after the US and Russia agreed the text. The vote in the 15-member Council could now take place later on Friday, diplomats at the UN in New York said. The agreement breaks a two-and-a-half year deadlock in the UN over Syria. It is seen as a key step in a US-Russia brokered plan earlier this month under which Syria agreed to disclose its arsenal and eliminate it by mid-2014.

The chart for the last quarter moon , 26 Sept 2013  at Damascus is shown above (*).  Notice the prominent Grand Cross that the moon phase highlights.  Conjunct the Moon [4cn] are the stars of Castor especially Tejat [5cn], mu Gemini, in Castor’s left foot. In ancient China, this was part of the asterism Tsing, which amongst other things stood for the cleansing of crime and law and order. It was also a kind of forum or meeting place. On the MC [10cn]  is the star Alhena, gamma Gemini [9cn16] in Pollux’s left foot. The Twins Castor and Pollux were known to fight each other but here with delta Columba [8cn35] a  star of the peaceful dove Columba, Morse notes for the star Alhena “the ability to negotiate a peaceful solution to disputes” [1].

But as regular readers are aware, lunar phases are at best the minute or second hands of the cosmic clock. Lurking close by is usually a more important mundane event like an eclipse. Since a “peaceful solution” has been found between Moscow and Washington, let us study the chart for the upcoming 3 November solar eclipse at the midpoint between these two places.

The eclipse [11sc] at the MC [8sc] is among the stars of Corona Borealis (Northern Crown), Centaur, Virgin and the Cross. Conjunct the eclipse is Saturn [14sc] amidst the stars of Hercules. Writing about this area Diana Rosenberg  gives us the following general picture.

It never occurs to them to back off from a challenge…their beliefs form the core of their being and they may stand up for ideas that are considered outrageous or even “heresy”. Domineering, controlling, “quick on the trigger”, they often seem to be “spoiling for a fight”. An earlier Akkadian name for Hercules was Lugal, “King” which combined with the Northern Crown represented imperial ambition, but with danger of a misuse of power and influence. This was an area of persecutions, acts of grave injustice, manifestations of fanatic intolerance  and a tendency to think of terror, murder and extermination as a solution to problems. But  fortunately,  with the presence of the western Scales of Justice there is the possibility of universal, legal and political milestones and advancements. In consequence issues of intolerance , of the too-ready use of violence are pitted against issues of ethics, morality, honesty and justice so that healing and peace may ultimately result. [2]

Finally, conjoining the Ascendant of the chart is Pluto (9cp) opposite the star Alhena (9cn) that was mentioned earlier as giving  “the ability to negotiate a peaceful solution to disputes”.

(*) Readers who prefer to make the chart for the UN (New York) will find the same pattern on the horizon axis.
