Astrology of the proposed Afghan-US security pact

The 2001 bombing and invasion of Afghanistan has been presented to World public opinion as a “Just War”, a war directed against the Taliban and Al Qaeda, a war to eliminate “Islamic terrorism” and instate Western style democracy. The economic dimensions of  the “Global War on Terrorism” (GWOT) are rarely mentioned. The post 9/11 “counter-terrorism campaign” has served to obfuscate the real objectives of the US-NATO war. The war on Afghanistan is part of a profit driven agenda: a war of economic conquest and plunder,  ”a resource war”. While Afghanistan is acknowledged as a strategic hub in Central Asia, bordering on the former Soviet Union, China and Iran, at the crossroads of pipeline routes and major oil and gas reserves, its huge mineral wealth as well as its untapped natural gas reserves have remained, until June 2010, totally unknown to the American public.

According to a joint report by the Pentagon, the US Geological Survey (USGS) and USAID, Afghanistan is now said to possess “previously unknown” and untapped mineral reserves, estimated authoritatively to be of the order of one trillion dollars (New York Times, U.S. Identifies Vast Mineral Riches in Afghanistan – NYTimes.com, June 14, 2010, See also BBC, 14 June 2010).

Under the proposed Afghan-US security pact,  which is an integral part of Obama’s Asian pivot, Washington and its NATO partners are preparing to ensure a permanent military presence in Afghanistan, with military facilities located in proximity of China’s Western frontier.  The pact would allow the US to maintain their nine permanent military bases, strategically located on the borders of  China, Pakistan and Iran as well as Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. Hamid Karzai has so far refused to sign the security pact. [1]

Hamid Karzai was sworn in as the President of Afghanistan on 22 December 2001 at 13:21; Kabul. A horoscope for the swearing in is shown above. Notice that the progressed Sun [12cp50] and transit Pluto [12cp11] conjoin  the MC of the chart opposite Jupiter [11cn].  Since currently Uranus squares Pluto on the MC the following key phrases from Martha Wescott  apply:

To face such pressures, events and individuals who are typical of disruptive ultimatums; to have sudden pressures force a change of plans; to alter goals as a result of insight regarding the need for autonomy. [2]

With Jupiter returning to its own position and opposite transit Pluto, Steven Forrest’s comment on Pluto-Jupiter applies here:

Under hard aspects between Pluto and Jupiter, faith is embattled. Perhaps someone has gone down a road for the wrong reasons. Under hard aspects illusions are challenged. The trick lies in realising that your life as you are living it is inadequate to meet your spiritual and emotional needs, and that half the reason that’s true is that you have believed far too many lies all your life. The other half of the reason is that you’ve grown and changed, and what used to be satisfying and believable is now barren and false. Comforting but phony elements of life must be released and new possibilities seized under less than auspicious circumstances. [3]

So it appears from the foregoing that Karzai would do well not to renew the security pact with the US and go his own way.
