On the day Secretary
of Defense Chuck Hagel was making his announcement, the Moon was in the Waning Crescent
Phase. In the chart drawn for this phase we find Mercury opposite Neptune on the horizon axis.

The Sun
(28le20) is conjunct the star Alphard, alpha Hydra (27le29) while the Moon
(13cn20) is square Algorab, delta Corvus (13li39). Incidentally, Chuck Hagel [1]
is born October 4, 1946 so that his radix Sun is 11li is also conjunct Algorab!
The Hydra was a fabulous water serpent with nine heads,
killed by Hercules in the second of his twelve labors. Hercules found that if
he cut off one of the heads, two new heads grew back: hence some evils including
repeated lies are spoken of as "many headed hydras".
Corvus is the Latin name for both the raven and the
crow and these two birds are usually paired together in mythology. From the
same family, their obvious intelligence and ingenuity, as well as their
distinctive caw, has given them a widespread association with trickery,
storytelling, the relaying of messages, and the serving of self-interest. But
the colour of their plumage has also drawn a universal connection with
malevolence, sinister forces, and ominous warnings. [2]
Finally,
Mercury [10vi39] is conjunct the star Zosma [11vi31]. About Zosma Nick Fiorenza writes:
Zosma, Chort and Denebola are a triangle of stars
