Indian woman kills leopard

An Indian woman armed only with farm tools is stable in hospital after killing a leopard that attacked her. Kamla Devi, 56, sustained multiple bites, cuts and fractures during the half-hour battle. She had been fetching water in northern Uttarakhand state when the leopard pounced on her from nearby bushes - she fought back with a sickle and spade. "I thought I was dead but I did not lose patience and courage," she told reporters after her lucky escape. Ms Devi was carrying water from a canal to her field near the village of Sem Nauti in Rudraprayag district when she was attacked on Sunday (August 24) . She said she managed to smash some of the animal's teeth during the struggle."I fought head on with it for almost half an hour. Then I came to know it was dead," she told reporters from hospital in the nearby town of Srinagar Garhwal. BBC

In mundane astrology, the importance of the Capricorn Ingress chart is universally recognized. A chart drawn for the Sun’s entry into Capricorn at any location is considered by many astrologers as the Annual Chart for that place since significant events seem to correlate with the progression of its angles. Shown here is the Capricorn Ingress chart for  Srinagar, Garwhal progressed to August 24, the date of the incident reported in the news.

Notice the slightly skewed Grand Cross  containing the Uranus-Pluto square on the angles. Richard Tarnas associates Uranus-Pluto with “the unleashing of the elemental forces of nature in various senses”. While he is of course referring to volcanoes and earthquakes etc. it is not too much of a stretch to include wild animal attacks under Uranus-Pluto energies. We need to remember that when a fast moving planet, like the Moon in this case, aspects the square it provides more specific details about where the Uranus-Pluto energy is likely to show itself. In our case here, the Moon [25le] is conjunct the star beta Leo Minor [25le].

Leo Minor, the Smaller Lion, as shown in the picture by Hevelius (1690), is the figure of a small lion positioned under the feet of the Great Bear, Ursa Major, and above the constellation Leo, the larger Lion. The constellation Leo Minor is an obvious reference  to smaller cats like the leopard which attacked the woman in the news.

Now for a moment let us look at the chart to see if we can find a reason why she won the battle with such a deadly predator. Here we find Jupiter on the Ascendant forming a loose Grand Cross with Uranus-Pluto and Mars. It is important to remember that in Astrology no planetary entity works as a solo agent. Each configures into the great cosmic clockworks. Jupiter in Cancer brings the element of good fortune in highly radical or life threatening situations symbolized by Uranus-Pluto. But more specifically Jupiter [17cn] is conjunct lambda Gemini [18cn] in Pollux’s right hand with a club – a reminder  that  the Twins were warriors.  Diana Rosenberg tells us that  “Win-at-all-costs” was the motto of Pollux, Zeus’ strong armed son [2]. So it not surprising to see Ms. Kamla Devi fought for her life and although badly wounded she eventually killed the leopard.
