Aztec
Sacrifice
Archaeologists have unearthed gruesome evidence of
brutal rituals as they excavated what could be the largest ceremonial skull
rack built by the Aztecs more than 500 years ago. Found on the western side of
what was once the Templo Mayor complex in Tenochtitlan, in modern Mexico City,
the partially unearthed skull rack was likely built between 1485 and 1502 and
may have been about 112 feet (34 meters) long and 40 feet (12 meters) wide. Mostly
belonging to young adult men, but also to women and children, several of the
unearthed skulls feature holes on both sides, suggesting they belonged to a
tzompantli. This was a rack on which the skulls of sacrificed people were
arranged on wooden poles and displayed to inspire fear and awe. According to
Eduardo Matos Moctezuma, one of the INAH archaeologists involved in the ongoing
excavation, the skulls would belong to the Huey Tzompantli, the Great
Tzompantli of Tenochtitlan (modern Mexico City) which is estimated to have
contained approximately 60,000 skulls. “We believe we have found the Huey
Tzompantli. Many of these skulls could be enemies of the Aztecs who were
captured, killed and beheaded in a show of might,” Matos Moctezuma said in a
statement. Aug. 21

First Quarter Moon of Aug. 22 at Mexico City is shown here. The Ascendant [8sa] is conjunct
the Moon [29sc] and Saturn [28sc] and square Neptune [8pi].
Centaurus

The Moon and Saturn
conjoin the star Toliman, alpha Centauri. The Centaur represents a conflict
between man’s lower and higher nature, the struggle between primitive untamed
passions and humane compassion and is often portrayed carrying Lupus, the “beast
of death” to the sacrificial altar. Centaurus-the-Punisher and Lupus, Beast of
Death, take part in acts of prejudice, cruelty and terror so that Diana Rosenberg links this area to “murder,
persecutions and acts of rabid intolerance” giving the following examples:
These stars were transited at the November
1793 New Moon, the month the “noyades”, mass drowning of citizens suspected of
opposition to the Revolution began at Nantes; in 1876 when the US 7th
Cavalry under Major General Custer rode out of Fort Lincoln, Dakota Territory
to hunt down and kill Indians; in 1935 when Hitler announced the
anti-semitic Nuremberg Racial Laws; at
the 1968 My Lai Massacre when a US Marine platoon butchered 567 Vietnamese
civilians; at the 1994 Hebron massacre when a fanatic Jewish settler
slaughtered Muslim worshippers at prayer in the Cave of the Patriarchs; in
April 1994 at the start of the Ruanda Genocide when ruling majority ethnic Hutu
deliberately set out to kill off minority Tutsi and Hutu moderates: hundreds of
thousands were hunted down like animals and slaughtered; the Sun when US
President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963 and many others.
Neptune [8pi]
forms part of the Chinese asterism Hiu-Liang, The Funeral Mound Bridge,
ruling burial places, graves and tombs so that it is quite appropriate that a
mass grave of victims has been
discovered. On the MC [13vi] are stars of Leo that were part of China’s Tchang-Houan,
a Long Wall for display (skull racks ?).
