NASA says liquid water exists on Mars

Dark streaks of flowing water on Mars

(CNN) Potentially life-giving water still flows across the ancient surface of Mars from time to time, NASA scientists said Monday in revealing a potential breakthrough in both the search for life beyond Earth and human hopes to one day travel there. While the discovery doesn't by itself offer evidence of life on Mars, either past or present, it does boost hopes that the harsh landscape still offers some refuge for microbes to cling to existence. The news from NASA comes exactly at the lunar eclipse. A chart drawn for the eclipse at Washington, DC – the headquarters of NASA has a T-square comprising Mars-Saturn-Neptune aligned with the meridian.

Describing the challenge of the current Saturn-Neptune square, Jason Holley writes in his article “Navigating an Ocean of Images” :

The richest of Neptune gateways is also one of the most accessible: the world of images. Not only art and images that are intentionally and consciously made or sought after — the perfect view, the masterpiece — but also (and perhaps especially) unbidden images: the things we see in images made by others that they did not intend; the images brought to us, without pre-approval, in our dreams, or in the media, or in everyday life. Images — and not just visual images but really ephemeral impressions of all kinds — are Neptune’s domain. They are doorways into other times and other worlds, inner and outer. Neptune in the birth chart, and Neptune transiting a sign for 14 years at a time, will tell us of the images that most inspire or transfix a person or society, and enable this kind of time-traveling and dimensional shifting we associate with Neptune.

In the past few years since Neptune has been in Pisces, we are seeing a proliferation of images unlike at any other time in history. Everyone is now a photographer. The Internet itself is moving rapidly from a predominantly textual to a predominantly imagistic interface.

As the images flood in, how can we make sense of them? This is where Saturn in Sagittarius comes in. Among its many associations, Saturn as an archetype correlates with structure, particularly the structure of consciousness itself; Sagittarius is the sign of cosmology, philosophy, and meaning. When Saturn in Sagittarius is engaged with consciously, there is a patient working through of the images encountered on our adventures, inside and out. We become strong and well-boundaried travelers who can journey thoughtfully and groundedly with the figures of our dreams and screens.

Water pouring from Aquarius’ urn

Neptune is currently amidst the stars of the Aquarian Water Pourer. A standard image of the Water Pourer shows water pouring from his Urn to fulfill the needs of the masses. Placed opposite Neptune is Mars – the War God. On its own Mars is  active energy often in a self-centered way bereft of any feelings (water – Neptune). Now isn’t interesting that we are suddenly confronted with an image that shows water on Mars! An opposition between planets like the one here between Mars and Neptune invites  us to resolve the paradox. With Neptune working negatively on Mars, we have a warrior whose plans have failed either because they lacked clarity or because of deceptive motives. On the other hand, when Neptune works positively with Mars, feelings and empathy that arise in the heart of the Warrior lead him to devise carefully thought of plans (Saturn) to help victims (Neptune) of war or other circumstances.

Could it be a coincidence that as NASA was announcing the discovery of water on Mars, Obama and Putin were speaking at the UN.  With more than 200,000 dead and 4 million fleeing refugees, the US policy of stirring a war in Syria has been a failure of massive proportions. This becomes a perfect example of Neptune confounding the wargod Mars. Enter Putin and Russia with clear cut plans (Saturn) on how to actively engage (Mars) to solve a humanitarian (Nepune) problem. Who do we think, the eclipse is going to support?
