Japan and South Korea have agreed to settle the
issue of "comfort women" forced to work in Japanese brothels during
World War Two, in their first such deal since 1965. Japan has apologised and
will pay 1bn yen ($8.3m, £5.6m) - the amount South Korea asked for - to fund
victims. The issue has been the key cause for strained ties. South Korea has
demanded stronger apologies and compensation. Only 46 former "comfort
women" are still alive in South Korea. Dec. 28 http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-35188135
The myths
encoded in the stars are experiential patterns containing a wealth of
information that can help decipher events in our lives. On December 26, Uranus stationed direct on
the Ascendant at Seoul with Pluto square the horizon axis. Pluto is amidst the
stars of the Archer – a constellation that the Roman astrologer Manilius associates with “war” and “the conqueror”.
"As for the Archer, when the foremost
portion of his cloak rises, he will give birth to hearts renowned in war and
will conduct the conqueror, celebrating great triumphs in the sight of all, to
his country's citadels." [Manilius, Astronomica, 1st century AD, book 4,
p.267]
Uranus is
conjunct the star alpha (α) Andromeda, Alpheratz in the constellationof the
Chained Woman – a perfect symbol for a slave.
Andromeda,
the original "maiden in distress" is daughter of Cepheus, king of
Ethiopia, and his wife Cassiopeia. When his kingdom was in grave danger, Cepheus consulted
the oracle of Ammon and learned the only
way to save his kingdom was to sacrifice his daughter, Andromeda, to the sea
monster. Andromeda is chained to a rock and left to the mercy of the monster. Later
in the story, the hero, Perseus, riding on the flying horse Pegasus rescues
Andromeda.
Alpha (α)
Andromeda, Alpheratz, is a double star white and purplish on the Chained
Woman's head. Alpheratz, Alpherat, and Sirrah derive from the Arabians' Al
Surrat al Faras, "the Horse's Navel", as this star was also associated
with Pegasus. Since this star is positioned on Pegasus's navel, and also on the top of Andromeda's head it has
been referred to strangely as Umbilicus
Andromedae . It represents the stage
in the story where Andromeda is lifted up by Pegasus and thereby freed.
Let us recall
that the most positive manifestation of Uranus-Pluto is a breakthrough from
difficult circumstances. The mythologies associated with the Archer and the
Chained Woman describe so elegantly the circumstances surrounding the
breakthrough – the Korean “comfort women” of World War 2 have finally been
recompensed.
