Legendary singer David Bowie dies

Legendary singer David Bowie has died at the age of 69 after battling cancer in secret for 18 months. The star, who released a new album last week, was known as the creator of glam rock and was one of the most successful artists of the 20th century. During his illness, which was not made public until his death yesterday, he continued to record and last week he appeared in a haunting video which contained the lyrics 'I'm in heaven'.

Following Bowie's death a flood of celebrities and other public figures such as politicians and even the Archbishop of Canterbury rushed to pay tribute to the impact he had on the cultural landscape of his era. The current New Moon [19cp] is conjunct the star Sheliak [19cp] of Lyra.  Lyra, harp of the angels, is often found to be prominent in the charts of musicians and singers. David Bowie was born 8 January [1] so that his natal Sun[17cp]  is also conjunct Lyra. His solar return just two days ago has triggered the Uranus-Pluto square acting on his natal Sun/Mars. Among other things, Uranus-Pluto rules death and endings.

As Mercury stationed retrograde on January 5, it squared Mars. A chart for the exact square aspect at London  has it straddling the horizon axis making it significant for the place. (Interestingly it also squares Bowie’s radix Ascendant-Descendant axis).  Mars is conjunct the asteroid Handley (cancer) while the asteroids Orpheus , Kronos  and Hippokrates conjoin Mercury. In her January newsletter [2]  published sometime back, Martha Wescott interprets the combination as follows:

In 03-04 Aquarius, we find the medical asteroid Hippokrates with Orpheus and Kron (which is an asteroid you interpret just like the TNP, Kronos.) Using simple key words, Hippokrates brings up a medical concern. Orpheus speaks of life-threatening or dying. Kron inserts a specialist or famous person. Using just these three asteroids, you know that someone could mention a medical specialist, an illness that may be terminal or life threatening, and that these things are shown through (Kron) a father, a government official or a famous person. Now, Orpheus is also music, isn't it? And an Orpheus-Kron would be a famous or infamous singer or musician.
