The Astrology of Brexit

Britain is to leave the European Union after a nearly half a century of membership plunging the country into unchartered political and economic territory and almost certainly spelling the end of David Cameron’s political career. At just after 4.40am in the morning the BBC declared the result for Brexit after a surge in support for leaving the EU confounded predictions and led the pound to fall to its lowest level for 31 years. I have explained in an earlier post [1] why the result could not have been predicted astrologically. Whether the Brits would decide to stay or leave was entirely up to the free will of the nation. However, we shall see here that the cosmic energies swirling up there in the stars were coaxing Britain to leave. To understand the cosmic energies at work, I urge readers to go first go through Nick Fiorenza post [2] on the March eclipses and more specifically, the lunar eclipse.

Lunar eclipses tend to be more emotionally palpable in nature, how we feel about and respond to our life experience. They are about releasing the emotional bonds within ourselves that glue us to involvements that are less than we truly want or deserve. They are also about the emotional and experiential aspects of our relations with others and with the world. Lunar eclipses provide opportunity for an emotional resynchronization.

The eclipse was conjunct the star Zaniah of Virgo and the newly discovered dwarf planet Makemake about which Nick Fiorenza writes:

Zaniah, Eta Virgo, is an ecliptical star, less than 2° north in ecliptical latitude. Zaniah is also the Chinese "Left-hand Maintainer of Law" (Allen). Zaniah inspires the "right use of will" directed by soul-level impulses and unadulterated by personality or egoic-level influences. Zaniah impels right action and participation in the here and now, moment-by-moment. Zaniah embodies the essence of the Virgin’s purity—to become a clear vessel and to know right action. Zaniah imparts a feminine quality.

Our Makemake Lunar Eclipse brings our Aquarius New Moon lunar cycle to its culmination. It brings us to examine if we are attuning to and living from our greater spiritual/soul guidance though demonstrable action with consideration for the long-term ramifications for all life. It asks us if we are taking responsibility for the effects of our moment-by-moment actions upon the durative timestream guiding our evolutionary course. Leadership regarding the administration of physical and financial resources, if not the entire global economy, becomes of issue over the several months ahead. Uranus now approaching its conjunction with Revati of Pisces (and on its way to conjoin Eris) may also contribute to unexpected, perhaps radical, changes regarding money and the economy over the months ahead.

Let us now turn our attention to the chart for the Lunar Eclipse at London which was placed very significantly on the meridian axis implying that its message was very specifically intended for this place. The eclipse formed a Grand Cross with the TNPs Kronos, Hades and Cupido. The TNP Cupido rules families or groups like the EU here. Hades is disgust or decline and Kronos is leadership so that we have a decline in the sense of bonding with EU as a result of disgust with the leadership.

But as always, the test of whether an eclipse is affecting the events on a particular day can be known when we progress the chart to see if it is triggered by the angles and sure enough the eclipse which was aligned with the meridian reaches a conjunction with the horizon axis on June 24!
