Portugal Fire

A catastrophic forest fire in Portugal has claimed at least 57 lives, officials say. Many died while trying to flee the Pedrógão Grande area, 50 km (30 miles) south-east of Coimbra, in their cars, according to the government. Several firefighters are among the 59 people injured. "Unfortunately this seems to be the greatest tragedy we have seen in recent years in terms of forest fires," said Prime Minister Antonio Costa.  June 18

The mundane horoscope of Portugal provided by Nick Campion and based on the  Proclamation of the Republic[1]  is reproduced here. The June lunar return chart for Portugal has a powerful Pluto-Mars-Zeus-Jupiter T-square on the meridian. This is a combination that is linked to devastating fires.

On the IC and  conjunct Mars is the star alpha (α) Canis Major, Sirius. The association of Sirius with fire has been known since ancient times:

"The brilliant constellation of the Dog: it barks forth flame, raves with its fire, and doubles the burning heat of the Sun. When it put its torch to the earth and discharges its rays, the earth foresees its conflagration and tastes its ultimate fate [translator's note: the ecpyrosis of the Stoics, who held that the Universe would ultimately be engulfed in conflagration and all things would return to the condition of primeval fire]”.
