Singapore hangs prisoner at Full Moon

Dionysus – the god of intoxication

The Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) said today it deeply regrets the Singapore government’s decision to ignore pleas for clemency and execute a Malaysian citizen for drug trafficking.

The commission in a statement issued just hours after the execution said it was disappointed that an advanced country with huge technological strides like Singapore continues to use the death penalty, which it described as draconian practices. Suhakam said the execution contravened the fundamental right to life and progressive civilisational norms. It also reminded the island republic that the execution was done amid a growing universal consciousness to abolish the death penalty.

In my earlier post[1] I mentioned that Singapore was in cross-hairs of the powerful Full Moon of Oct.25. In this post we shall see how the same planetary combination can produce diametrically opposite  responses at places affected by them.  Let us begin with the Full Moon chart at Singapore. Notice that the Moon and Uranus conjoin the MC  and the accompanying Grand Cross straddles the meridian.  On the MC are stars of King Cepheus, of chained Princess Andromeda, of Draco the merciless dragon and Al Rischa, the knot joining the two Fishes.  King Cepheus when influenced by the stars of Draco can be a harsh and merciless ruler who can condemn a prisoner (chained Andromeda) to death.   However, with Uranus moving over these stars, there is always an opportunity  to break from the conformity of the past. When positive Uranus respects individuality and  instills a future-orientation and humanitarian focus, uninhibited by convention and establishment (Saturn). When negative Uranus can manifest as fear of change.

The specific star of Draco on the MC is sigma Draconis, in the neck of the Dragon. Among events linked to this area, Diana Rosenberg lists “hangings and beheadings”.  But the surprises don’t end there.  Conjunct the North Node is the asteroid Dionysus which like Bacchus is associated with drugs! So we have a merciless ruler who  hangs a small time drug peddler with no respect for the free will of individuals who might want to use drugs.

Now let us go to Ottawa, Canada, placed almost exactly diametrically opposite to Singapore  in longitude on the globe. Notice that once again here too the Full Moon-Uranus-Node Grand Cross straddles the meridian but this time Uranus and Moon are on the IC. Marijuana became legal across Canada from Oct.17 just a week before the Full Moon. It is a historic moment, the culmination of decades of efforts to strip the criminality out of a drug that had long been subject to a significant stigma.

On a personal what can we conclude?  In Greek mythology, Apollo and Dionysus are both sons of Zeus. Apollo is the god of the sun, of rational thinking and order, and appeals to logic, prudence and purity. Dionysus is the god of wine and dance, of irrationality and chaos, and appeals to emotions and instincts. One of the  questions that the Full Moon is posing to us on an individual level is : Will we allow ourselves the freedom to be  “intoxicated” so that we may break away from a devitalised life of overemphasized reason and order.
