The US – China Synastry

Synastry is the art of relationship astrology. It is a fascinating and illuminating study of how individuals or groups interact with one another. A simple synastry would be a comparison of the charts of two individuals drawn in the tropical zodiac. Going one step further one can compare the draconic chart of one individual with the tropical chart of the other.

The word ‘Draconic’ derives from the latin word meaning ‘like a dragon’.  In astrology, North Node is  referred to as the ‘Dragon’s head’ and the South Node  as the ‘Dragon’s tail.  The Draconic Chart is the same as the natal chart but it uses the so-called draconic zodiac instead of a tropical or sidereal zodiac. The draconic chart places 0° Aries on the Moon's Node.

In this post, we will compare China’s draconic chart with the tropical US Sibly and see how much it reveals about the trade war. Notice that with China’s draconic Ascendant at [14cp], the US Sibly Sun [13cn] aligns with the Descendant (7th house cusp).

Deborah Houlding at her website Skyscript, explains what the 7th house stands for in Mundane Astrology [1].

Treaties and agreements with other nations. Carter notes that this house shows international warfare, treaties and alliances.

With the US Sibly Sun on China’s 7th cusp, it is no surprise that China and the US have an adversarial relationship. Moreover since the US Sibly Sun is in its own 8th , a house which rules the “national debt” and “financial relations with other countries” we can clearly see the essence of the problem. The US seeks a trade agreement to balance the growing trade deficit.

But why has the relationship blown up now? Well for one thing, Saturn is currently transiting over China’s draconic Ascendant [14cp] and opposite the US Sibly Sun. This transit began in 2018 and will last the whole of 2019.

Saturn is one of the planets in astrology that has a pretty bad rep. With Saturn representing things like responsibility, hard work, restrictions, rules, and the cold hard facts – it’s easy to see why.  Known as The Great Taskmaster, Saturn pushes us to get serious and handle our business like the mature, responsible adults we need to be. Saturn transits dominate America’s astrological landscape — one to the USA natal Sun and the other to its natal Saturn. These are both very serious transits. Americans will be forced to examine who they have been, who they are, and who we they will become. Economically, 2019 will almost certainly bring further challenges in national finances and monetary systems. Business and money are at the heart of the USA Sibly chart as central themes (8th house Sun, with Saturn in the 10th house ruling the 2nd), and 2019’s major transits are powerfully connected to both arenas in difficult ways.
