Suicide and the US Sibly

New comers to mundane astrology may be surprised by how much information can be gleaned from a national chart. The US national chart often referred to  as the Sibly is reproduced here [1]. In a nation’s chart, the 5th house and its ruler  refer to the younger generation [2]. In the Sibly, the 5th house is ruled  by Mars  [21ge] which is placed in the 7th house forming a square (90 degrees) to Neptune [22vi].

Depression is a complex phenomenon, but it typically includes a loss of hope and vitality, absence of goals, the reinforcement of negative internal dialogs, and anhedonia, the loss of the joy of living (joie de vivre). Anger is associated with depression, and it is often the denied or unexpressed anger or aggression which correlates most closely in depression. In the astrological chart, anger and aggression correlate with the planet Mars.  Astrologer Adam C. Madison [3]  describes, the dynamics of Mars-Neptune thus:

The person has little ability to put his desires above those of others. The ego was not properly supported and nurtured during childhood by the parents or environmental factors. Therefore the person lacks a solid basis for, or understanding of, personal success. He suffers from insecurity and low self-confidence, and needs to work diligently on his sense of deserving. The person is extraordinarily sensitive to criticism and disapproval. Underneath a calm exterior, he believes (consciously or not) that he is a failure. Facing his flaws and weaknesses may become particularly difficult.

He may also possess an unconscious self-destructiveness… There may be times in life when the person genuinely contemplates suicide, but only because he has so little control over his imagination.

Compunding the Mars-Neptune effect is the fact that  the Sibly Neptune is influenced by the star , beta (β) Leo, Denebola often linked to depression and mental health issues [4].

Currently, transit Neptune is beginning to form an opposition to radix Neptune and therefore a T-square  with the Mars-Neptune combination. This is what explains the current spate of suicides.
