The cycles of growth and decay that a nation, much like an individual, must go through can be well understood from the major planetary transits and progressions in the horoscope of that nation. The horoscope of Israel as provided in Nick Campion's book, "World Horoscopes" [1] is reproduced here. As always transits and progressions to the luminaries and the angles are of utmost importance. Here we have Saturn-Pluto transiting the IC (4th house cusp) and square the horizon.
Baigent, Campion and Harvey suggest that the 4th house symbolizes nationalism, the ideology, 'roots', tradition and history of a nation [2]. The inhabitants of a nation may not be consciously aware of how much they are conditioned by the ideology. When Pluto transits the IC and the 4th house, the effects of the conditioning and deeply ingrained beliefs are brought out in the open. Pluto challenges, the inhabitants to see the how a dysfunctional nation may have been held together by belief systems that are outdated. But more important, it suggests that the time has come to let go of those beliefs.
In a previous post, “Why does Israel behave so aggressively?” [3], I explained the reasons for the animosity towards the Palestinians. Readers are urged to read that post to better understand what follows.
As Pluto transits the 4th cusp it squares the conjunction of radix Hades-Admetus on the 7th cusp. In mundane astrology, the 7th house rules the enemies of a nation. The combination Hades-Admetus can be interpreted as long held (Admetus) ill will (Hades) towards an enemy (7th house). This describes the animosity with the Palestinians quite well.
How does one interpret a 4th – 7th house square? Ideological roots of the nation (4th) are creating long held (Admetus) ill will (Hades) towards an enemy (7th).
Martha Wescott provides the following interpretations for Pluto to Hades and Admetus.
Pluto-Admetus
To have situations that have been endured for a long time begin to surface – problems that have been on simmer break into a full rolling boil; to deal with pain, resentment and emotions that have been suppressed; to come to recognize what can no longer be endured – and to deal with the accrued consequences of having pushed the self too far; having delayed elimination of intolerable problems, one faces confrontation (with self/others) and experiences a need for return to integrity – a need to know where one stands (and then to decide if one is willing to stand there!)
Pluto-Hades
Unacknowledged, buried or powerful feelings cause an internal festering or putrefaction. major changes can require periods of extensive and extendING difficulty. So the question could arise: How "low" does one have to sink before they REALLY change? And when things get truly tough, can a person RISE to the occasion? Note that mistakes, a perception of lack, or some downward spiral can have the effect of forcing an inner reckoning. Sometimes situations (and people!) have to "get ugly" to gather sufficient energy for a real Purge!
No further commentary is required. This explains why Israel is in decline.
