The Pluto New Moon

“What makes astrology supremely relevant is that it discloses an unsuspected dimension of the world we think we know so well. It is as though we have become accustomed to see only the horizontal yarn of the weaving, the weft, and are largely unaware of the warp. We are accustomed to break down our world, in order to understand it, into certain categories, recognizing what belongs to this category, what belongs to that. That is ‘scientific’. However, astrology is about learning to think in new categories. It embodies a system of new categories that are as different from the ones to which we are habituated, as the warp is from the weft. In this system objects and events that at first sight appear to have nothing whatever to do with each other are shown to be intimately connected. Conversely, things we naturally tend to associate may be distributed otherwise in the astrological scheme. Understanding the world around us depends on our power to perceive patterns of meaning, to make the right connections, recognize what belongs with what. It is not easy. Unaided, it is as if we are looking at the weaving from the wrong side, and it seems a mess, but with the help of astrology we can see the design as it is meant to be. As the shuttle of the cosmic loom ceaselessly weaves its intricate design, astrologers have the responsibility, or rather the awesome privilege, to work towards restoring to humanity the sense of high meaning it has all but lost.”

JAKARTA: A Sriwijaya Air plane crashed into the sea on Saturday minutes after taking off from Indonesia's capital Jakarta on a domestic flight with 62 people on board, and their fate was not known. The Boeing 737-500, en route to Pontianak in West Kalimantan, disappeared from radar screens after taking off just after 2.30pm (0730 GMT) - 30 minutes after the scheduled time because of heavy rain. The New Moon of Jan.13-14 is conjunct Pluto and will therefore bring out events related to Pluto. The nature of Pluto is similar to that of the Hindu god Shiva, the creator and destroyer. Pluto usually begins by breaking clown a structure; then it creates a new one in its place. This entire cycle of death, destruction and renovation is accompanied by tremendous powers, for Pluto is not a mild or even very subtle planetary influence. You can always see its effects very clearly - ranging from machines breaking down and needing repair to full-scale destruction or death. Decay at one level or another, followed by new life from the old is the typical Plutonian process.

Maps drawn for lunations (New and Full Moons) are among some of the tools used in mundane astrology. Should these charts carry important planetary configurations on the angles they are especially significant for the place. Shown here are the charts for the upcoming New Moon  (conjunct Pluto) drawn for Jakarta and Washington DC.  At Jakarta the New Moon is aligned with the MC  (upper meridian) while at Washington DC, it is on the IC (lower meridian).

About transit Sun  (or New Moon) conjunct Pluto, Robert Hand writes in his book Planets in Transit

Sun Conjunct Pluto

This transit can have a variety of effects, but in general it indicates intense experiences that do not allow you to stay at the level of surface manifestations. You will really have to get involved in whatever you do today, and the results may be quite powerful. Pluto relates to the forces underlying all experience and leading to fundamental evolutionary changes from within. The inevitable power of these changes produces the major occurrences in the world - growth, evolution, decay and death, as well as rebirth and regeneration. At the practical  level, you may be concerned today with repairing something that has broken  down, such as an automobile or an appliance. Or you may have to deal with a situation that has broken clown to the point that it must change radically in order to continue, even along completely new lines.

The Jakarta plane crash is an example of a machinery that has failed possibly because maintenance or repairs were not done on time and remember Pluto can be very unforgiving.

At Washington DC, in the aftermath of the storming of the Capitol we are seeing a slightly different manifestation of the Pluto  New Moon. Since  the New Moon has activated the Saturn - Pluto conjunction in Capricorn, the following extract from a previous post is relevant here:

Among other things Capricorn and its ruler Saturn are associated with government and those in power. Pluto, as Lord of the underworld, always brings shadow material to the surface. As it passes through a sign or aspects a planet, the darker dimensions of that sign or planet loom large in the collective experience. Dark Capricorn or Saturn can be frightening. It invokes the image of the controlling tyrant suppressing truth and murdering enemies, real or perceived. Ultimately, it is not even really about a political ideology. Ultimately it is about fear: the fear of losing control or power, the fear of change, the fear of anything or anyone perceived as alien, and fear of the unknowable future. Pluto in astrology acts as a force for creative destruction. Under Pluto  transits people and other entities are  tested for flaws in character. If the flaws are deep, they will fall.

It is quite likely that in the month following the New Moon, major changes in the political landscape of the US is likely to occur.

The two examples above illustrate one way in which a lunation can be significantly active for a place. There is another way too. What if the lunation falls on significant points in a national (or even individual chart). Here too we will feel the full impact of Pluto. As an example, the Pluto New Moon [24cp] is conjunct the Ascendant [24cp], the Sun [24cp] and Saturn [18cp] in  the horoscope  of Saudi Arabia (15 Jan. 1902; 3:45 am GMT, Riyadh). In his article Tom Luongo [1] explains the downfall of Saudi Arabia as the world’s oil leader.
