Achernar, the Brightest Star on
the River of Eridanus
Sydney
is facing a once-in-50-year flood emergency tonight. Evacuation orders are in
place, thousands of people on alert, with sections of suburbs around the
Hawkesbury and Nepean Rivers expected to go under. Adding to the crisis,
Warragamba Dam is spilling enormous amounts of water with fears of flooding not
seen since the 1960s. More: https://7news.link/3tH0QUw
In mundane astrology, the cardinal ingresses of the Sun have a traditional reputation as important mundane events. Of these the Capricorn Sidereal Ingress chart (Capsolar) is considered by many astrologers to be the most important and often referred to as the Annual Chart. Presented here is the Capricorn Sidereal Ingress chart for Sydney, Australia. As always, aspects to the angles are the ones to focus on. Here we have Neptune on the Ascendant square the Nodes aligned with the meridian .
The March 13, New Moon [23pi] fell on the Ascendant [22pi] and Neptune [19pi] which is conjunct the star Achernar of Eridanus. Although Eridanus is the longest constellation in the sky and has a multitude of stars, it possesses only one bright one, Achernar, whose name means 'Mouth of the River'. (Sydney at the end of Parramatta River?)
According to the early
account of Aratus, Eridanus is a river of tears shed at the death of Phaethon
and lifted to the sky to console Apollo for the death of his son. Conflicting
reports claim that its earthly equivalent is the Euphrates or the Nile, though
it most likely reflects the economic and social importance of all rivers to our
ancestors. Since the constellation is separated into a Northern and Southern
'stream', there have been attempts to recognise both the Nile and Euphrates in
it. William Ramesey, for example, called the southern part the River Eridanus,
and the northern part the River Nilus.
Perhaps because its
astrological meaning is obvious, Manilius (and Firmicus after him) made no
comment on its influence. But the simple statement from Ptolemy, that
constellations pertaining to rivers and streams were associated with their
counterparts on earth, would seem to suggest a connection with floods, drowning, aquatic life, trade and
travel. https://www.skyscript.co.uk/eridanus.html
Another hint of flooding comes from the Aries ingress chart
for Sydney. Pluto connected to natural disasters is on the IC opposite four
tiny stars in Canis Major on the MC , part of the Chinese asterism Choui-Wei, the
Situation of the Waters which governed the overflowing of rivers. The
astrologers said that if this asterism was clear and tranquil it was a good
omen, but if it faded or seemed to drift and combine with the Milky Way, the
rivers of the Empire would overflow and flood the land.
PS:
One can also look at
Australia’s [Jan.1, 1901; 1:35 pm AEST, Sydney] current solar return chart. Notice the T-square of Neptune-Nodes aligned with
the horizon. Now progress it to March 21, and you have it aligned
with the meridian implying that it is triggered on that date.
