Metaphorical reflections on the White Dwarf G29–38

A White Dwarf Star

Astronomers for the first time have watched a dead sun, a white dwarf, gobble up a dead planet, according to a new study published in Nature. The event has long been hypothesized but never observed. The authors of the study used NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory, focusing on a white dwarf called G29–38 located some 45 light-years from Earth. https://bit.ly/3rQrhJD

The worldview underlying astrology sees all of reality as symbolic in nature. To the symbolist, the heavenly bodies are threads within a great tapestry of affinities and correspondences. Elwell has defined the term multicongruence as the tendency for certain things and conditions to co-occur because they belong together at a higher, unmanifest level. Similarly, the ancient Hermetic doctrine “as above, so below” or “as inside, so outside” sums up the symbolic nature of events.

A White Dwarf is born when a star becomes exhausted and can no longer continue its nuclear fusion, yet, its own gravity prohibits its seemingly unavoidable collapse. A contradictory physical phenomenon prevents stellar collapse despite the lack of outward motion generally attributed to nuclear fusion.

White Dwarfs represent the collapse of the little ego, the attenuation of one's faulty psychology. In many Eastern Mysticisms initiates must relinquish the ego for the sake of the soul. The galactic analogue for this sacrifice comes from the White Dwarf. On a more western level, the process consists of going through the ego, exploiting it fully, to learn its exasperating limits. At that point, collapse to a predefined level - that of the soul - results. Here, a person realizes material limits, merits of the "real world" and pragmatic concerns. Philip Sedgwick

The White Dwarf G29–38 is located in the constellation Pisces [Right ascension: 23h 28m 47.74s; Declination +05° 14′ 53.4″]. This implies that its ecliptic longitude is 354.92 [24pi55]. Readers are encouraged to check whether this position is conjunct or opposite any of their chart elements. I notice that this is conjunct transit Neptune [22pi] and opposite the US Sibly Neptune [22vi25] which is square Mars [21ge22]. In the US Sibly, the war god Mars [21ge22] in the 7th house of enemies indicates a propensity to go to war using lies and deception (Neptune) as excuse.

About the zodiacal sign Pisces, Dane Rudhyar writes:

Pisces is an era of storms and of wholesale disintegration. But Piscean winds of destiny may impel men of vision and courage to discover many a "new world," as much as they do destroy or suffocate the many who stubbornly resist change. Pisces is an era of often sharp and violent repolarization. It is an era of purgation and cleansing. It is the mythical Deluge and the age of universal dissolution. Man must accept structural dissolution under the insidious power of Neptune, ruler of Pisces. He must cling to no stability or no past greatness. "No-security" is for him the only possible security.

The Sabian symbol for the ecliptic position of  G29–38 is:

PHASE 355 (PISCES 25°): A RELIGIOUS ORGANIZATION SUCCEEDS IN OVERCOMING THE CORRUPTING INFLUENCE OF PERVERTED PRACTICES AND MATERIALIZED IDEALS.

KEYNOTE: The power of the Soul to intervene in the personal life and to induce necessary catharses.

To take us to another level of awareness, wherein we can see ourselves for what we are and let go of the deepest imperfection of being, we need to experience purification. Very often this is ‘by fire’ – in other words catharsis. We live in a very dark and terrible age and we have to release ourselves from the expectation that that darkness will engulf us. There is hope for the courageous, determined, passionate aspirant – with these qualities we can be free of the corruption that has blinded us from soul consciousness.
