"Excessive Grief" A Mental Disorder?

A Widow Mourning At A Graveside

The latest edition of the DSM, psychiatry's "bible" of mental disorders, features an entirely new one: excessive grieving for a deceased loved one. The NYT reported over the weekend that the inclusion of the new "disorder" marks an end to a prolonged debate within the field of mental health, prompting researchers and clinicians to view intense grief as a target for medical "treatment", aka the prescribing of psychiatric medication, which would likely lead to a financial windfall for pharmaceutical companies. The disorder's inclusion in the DSM-5, the latest edition of the manual, means insurers can be billed for the medication. Mar 21 https://bit.ly/3uf547H

The solar eclipse of December 4, 2021 at [12sa22] which fell exactly on the US Sibly Ascendant [12sa21] was activated over the weekend by transit Mercury [12pi] making a square aspect to the eclipse degree. Readers may like to revisit an earlier post Solar Eclipse: A Widow Mourning At A Graveside [1] where I discussed the central theme of this eclipse.

Instead of helping people to deal with the issues involved, medical practitioners think of it as a disorder that requres psychiatric medication. Treating symptoms with synthetic chemicals merely cause more chronic conditions to occur, a negative degenerating spiral downward; astrology along with wholistic medicine honors all aspects of the body as an intimate and integral system. To address the cause of disease and discord rather than merely treating symptoms we must treat ourselves as a whole beings comprised of a soul with its own patterns.

Many people have learned to suppress emotions, and this is based in our cultural ways of life passed on by our upbringing. Psychiatric medicine is but an extension of this cultural mentality, that is why it sells. Learning to reveal and embrace our emotions is the key to true healing, as this is most often where the blocked energy lies that causes disease.
