The 2022 NATO summit in Madrid, Spain is set to kick off Tuesday and run through Thursday of this week. It takes place in the backdrop of the Ukraine war. Russia has gobbled up a fifth of Ukraine in the Donbas where Russian speaking Ukrainians endured 8 years of shelling by Ukraine ultranationalists. Ukraine’s economy has shrunk over 50%, turning Ukraine into failed state status. It’s over for President Zelensky. But the delusional Ukraine president still pounds his chest hoping that NATO will save his bacon by expanding the war into US/NATO versus the Russian Bear. None of the economic sanctions the US/EU implemented on Russia nor any of the $54 billion squandered on weaponry for Ukraine will turn the tide.
To understand the astrology behind the events taking place now, it may be a good idea to look at the horoscope of NATO [4th April 1949; 4:52 pm EST; Washington DC] [1].
The Ascendant of the NATO chart [25vi] is in an area influenced by the stars Benatnasch of the Great Bear (Ursa Major) and Zavijava of Virgo about which Nick Fiorenza writes:
Benatnasch is of the old totalitarian governing stream of consciousness and Zavijava is of naïve followers of this stream of consciousness. Although a star of Virgo, Zavijava lies outside the realm of Virgo proper, before the head of the Virgin. It does not offer the clarity and purity of awareness common to the rest of the Virgo stars. Zavijava is of a passive and submissive character, articulating the blind and naïve followers of the Benatnasch directive--those who are swayed by the diversionary dramatics of their manipulative leaders and believe in the miss-information they are being fed.

Could there be a better description of NATO...a leader (US) and his naive followers (EU) have truly become "the destroyer of nations".
Next look at the MC [24ge20] which is closely conjunct Moon [25ge0] and Uranus [26ge55]. These are conjunct Betelgeuse [28ge02], the alpha star of Orion - the Warrior. So together the stars on the Ascendant and MC are hinting at a group of naive followers of a warlord!
To understand the energies operating in a horoscope at any point of time, astrologers routinely look at progressions and transits. Of these progressions the most important is always that of the Sun and the angles. Currently NATO’s progressed Sun [25ge36] is conjunct the radix Moon [25ge0] just past the MC [24ge20] and the star Al-Hecka. Zeta (ζ) Taurus, Al Hecka, "The Bull's southern Horn", is a star that marks the tip of the southern horn of the Bull. About this star, Diana Rosenberg writes:
Unless they find ways to master and/or channel their impulsive, eruptive emotions they could be overwhelmed by them. These are sharp horn-tips of the head-down charging Bull: if denied what they believe is their rightful place in the world, they can become combative, eccentric cranks, heedless, sullen, ill-tempered and surly, with a capacity for full murderous rage.

Al Hecka, Zeta Taurus, the south horn, is of stalemates, standoffs, and brick walls--fighting old and antiquated crusades--particularly of a religious-political nature--and blindly or automatically continuing the fight out of habitual pattern even though the original purpose behind what we were fighting for is long gone.
So what does the progressed Sun conjunct the radix Moon/Uranus and these stars mean? To better understand how the progressed Sun potentially works think of it as an alchemical furnace which transmutes "base metals" (e.g., lead) into "noble metals" (particularly gold).
