When an ugly power play marks the end of the career of a phenomenally successful politician, it presents a painful sight. From all accounts in the British press in the most recent weeks, it was clear that the night of the long knives was approaching for the most photogenic prime minister Great Britain and Northern Ireland ever produced — Liz Truss. https://www.indianpunchline.com/the-wasteland-of-british-politics/
The noon horoscope of Liz Truss as provided by Astro-databank [1] is reproduced here. We immediately notice not only that recently (Oct.9) Pluto stationed direct [26cp] opposite her radix Mercury [26cn] - Saturn [23cn] but also that the combination was activated by the Oct. 17 Last Quarter Moon [24cn].
References below explain how Pluto transit opposite Saturn works.
Pluto Opposite Saturn
When transiting Pluto forms an opposition to your natal Saturn, feelings of gravity, constraint, or constriction will become dominant themes. As a result, you may feel frustrated that your work and effort does not appear to be bringing you the external success you aspire to achieve. https://www.astrology.com/aspects-transits/pluto-opposite-saturn/
Pluto Opposition Saturn
Under this transit you will experience changing circumstances and situations that may force you to surrender many things. You will probably resist these "losses," which is how you will experience them, with great tenacity and stubbornness. Be prepared to let go of whatever you don't really need. - Robert Hand; Planets in Transit
Capricorn represents the traditional pecking order in society, where authorities at the top of the social hierarchies give orders that are to be obeyed by all those below. These “orders” may be literal policies and rules of social operation, or they may be less tangible instructions concerning what we all should believe. In Capricorn, the State dominates even its leaders - the organizers of empire. The central authority must establish rigid patterns of government so as to hold the State under its impersonal rule.
In Capricorn, Pluto’s first order of business is to demolish the structures and systems that have outgrown their usefulness, this in order to set the stage for the next construction project to begin. Pluto is serving to draw back the curtain until the flaws, failings, and destructiveness of the institutions become so obvious, they can no longer be ignored.
In Liz Truss’ chart Pluto is transiting opposite Mercury-Saturn which are conjunct the stars Procyon and Pollux respectively. Pollux often depicted with club in his hand has an obvious link to an aggressive nature.
According to tradition (with Procyon) there is also a tendency to a hot temper and impudence. Rise and success are found with it, but fall from high position later, is indicated. Enterprises created in haste therefore do not last. [Fixed Stars and Their Interpretation, Elsbeth Ebertin, 1928, p.43.]
Finally take a look at how appropriate the Sabian symbol for her radix Mercury is:
PHASE 117 (CANCER 27°): A VIOLENT STORM IN A CANYON FILLED WITH EXPENSIVE HOMES.
KEYNOTE: A confrontation with a social upheaval demanding the reconsideration of static values.
However seemingly settled society is and however secure its members might feel, nonetheless there are forces that cannot be tamed. Each person will be faced with circumstances beyond their control and inevitably go through transformative emotional turmoil.
The deeper implications of the scene depicted in the symbol are that the socio-cultural elite can always see its position and security challenged by forces beyond its control, even if it may be successful in protecting itself from destruction.
