A powerful winter storm and cold blast will wreak havoc across the central and eastern US through the weekend and bring what the National Weather Service calls a "once-in-a-generation type event." More than 100 million people across the US are under winter weather alerts which extend across 37 states, dipping as far south as Texas. Dec. 23

Astro-meteorology uses charts for the Sun's ingress into each of the four cardinal signs, i.e. 00 deg of Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn to predict weather conditions. As always, planets and stars aspecting the angles are of primary significance.
Presented here is the chart for the Capricorn ingress of the Sun drawn for Washington DC. The Sun [0cp] is on descendant and the Moon [8sa] is square the MC.
The Sun [0cp] is amid stars that were transited:
At the 1815 Autumn Equinox, the day the devastating Great September Gale hit New England; at the Winter Solstice of 1898, a series of hurricanes and gales swept the North Atlantic from the end of December to March 1899 causing havoc with shipping; at 1935’s Aug New Moon, five days before a Category 5 hurricane hit the Florida Keys on Labor Day, the barometer fell to 26.35”, the lowest ever observed in the US; at when Hurricane Hugo with 135 mph winds hit Charleston SC causing severe damage; at a June 1992 solar eclipse presaging August’s Hurricane Andrew that wrecked South Florida.
The Moon is conjunct the star Antares. Among its manifestations, Diana Rosenberg lists “storms (extreme barometric lows)” and gives the following examples:
There was a solar eclipse here in Nov. 440 CE, the year the city of Ys in Brittany was “submerged in a great flood” and in 441 CE “the sea submerged great parts of Wales”; these stars were transited in 1530 when floodwaters driven by high winds smashed Holland dikes: 400,000 drowned; at the Winter Solstice of 1886: a vicious winter followed on the Great Plains: hundreds of thousands of cattle froze to death in blizzards; in 1881 in Haipong, China typhoon killed thousands; at the Great Galveston Hurricane of 1900 the city was totaled, 8000 killed; in 1969 when Hurricane Camille hit the Gulf Coast (400 killed, 400,000 homeless); at the 1974 “Super Tornado Putbreak”: 148 tornadoes in 2 days swept through 12 states, killing 324; at the solar and lunar eclipses of May-June 1993 during continuous rain that led to a great Mississippi flood; in 1999 when tornadoes hit Oklahoma and Kansas and many others.
To understand the deeper psychological reason behind why the powerful "once-in-a-generation” storm is hitting the US, I refer to Jung’s quote on fate above....perhaps this picture is saying the same thing?
And for readers who wish to understand the astrology of this “fated” storm, I refer to Nick Fiorenza’s excellent account of what is required when the star Antares is prominent.
Antares ensures that the current and accepted approaches and visions do not become static or antiquated. It ensures growth, evolution and change. If the Scorpion meets those stuck in their antiquated modality of life, its sting is not far off - hence its classical association with rebellious and destructive forces (including storms). When there are rebellious and terrorizing forces assaulting the established order, this reflects the need to realize that the established order is no longer supporting in ways truly nourishing to the needs of the people, and requires some type of reform - reform that if denied, may result in some level of unneeded destruction.
Unneeded destruction!
