Saturn - the Grim Reaper
Brazilian football legend Edson Arantes do Nascimento, better known as Pele, has died aged 82 in Sao Paulo. Eclipses tend to bring about endings and new beginnings. The Oct. 25 solar eclipse fell just 4 days after Pele’s birthday [1] so that his radix Sun [27li] was conjunct the eclipse [2sc] and more closely conjunct the asteroid Requiem (death) [25li] in the eclipse chart signaling an end to his earthly life.
Among the three major significators - the Sun, Moon and Ascendant - the Ascendant is the fastest moving and therefore the most specific. Pele’s Ascendant [9vi] is conjunct the asteroid Toro [5vi] which Martha Wescott links to “football”[2].
Next we notice that his current major directions are:
(a) ’Hour hand’ of cosmic clock: Solar Arc Pluto [27li] conjunct radix Sun [27li]
(b) ‘Minute hand’ of cosmic clock transit Pluto [27cp] squares (a)
(c) ‘Second hand’ of cosmic clock Mercury station [24cp] (within 3 degrees of Pluto)
Pluto’s association with death and cancer is well documented. The death took place at Mercury station retrograde acting as the ‘second hand’ of the cosmic clock. Here is the chart for the station.
Notice Mercury placed very significantly on the Ascendant conjunct Pluto and making a hard aspect to Mars [9ge] in the 5th house. In mundane astrology the 5th house rules all manner of recreation e.g. theatre, sports etc and by association actors, sports personalities [3]. Additionally Mars is conjunct the Royal Persian star Aldebaran associated with fame and popularity! So at Mercury station we are hearing news (Mercury) of the death (Pluto) of a sports star (Mars with Aldebaran in 5th).
Sao Paulo's Albert Einstein hospital, where Pele was undergoing treatment, said he died at 3:27 p.m. Here is the chart for the reported time of his death. Not surprisingly on the descendant [21sc] are the asteroids Requiem (death) and Toro (footballer) in square aspect to the Grim Reaper Saturn [22aq] on the MC!
