A rug in a nursery cushions the shocks of life
Today is the winter solstice when the days start to get longer and the light of the Sun grows stronger. It also marks the day we move from Sagittarius to Capricorn energy and shift our attention from the search for meaning and wider horizons to working on practical goals for success and self-mastery. This movement takes place as the Sun makes a square aspect to Jupiter which has just entered Aries.
In astrology, Jupiter, the gas giant is referred to as “the Great Benefic,” which means it brings luck, fortune, abundance, and expansion wherever it goes. Jupiter is associated with higher learning, cultural intrigues, and spiritual enlightenment, too.
It should also be noted that Aries is associated with “me.” . Aries shifts our interest away from the collective and community to focus more on individual needs. Perhaps you’ve been compromising too much of yourself for others’ happiness?
Or maybe you feel like others’ apathy is holding you back, and you’re finally ready to push forward and try something new? Or, you could feel inspired to really focus on your physical health. Aries is associated with embodiment. Fundamentally, Aries is about embracing self through independence, autonomy, and personal agency.
But since Aries Jupiter (fire) squares Capricorn Sun (Earth), the desire to achieve things too quickly may be held back leading to feeling frustrated and thwarted by the rules and restrictions imposed by the outer world. However, success will come to those who understand that they must struggle to achieve within the established framework of society. In a strange coincidence the Sabian symbols for Saturn (Aquarius 22) , the ruler of Capricorn (dispositor of the Sun) and Mars (Gemini 12), the ruler of Aries (dispositor of Jupiter) hint at just that:
Gemini 12 (11° - 12°) A slave girl demands her independence
Habits of behaviour and thought are heavy burdens that must be cast off if we want to journey into new realms.
Despite the apparent freedom of choice offered by new opportunities, we certainly find ourselves caught up in patterns that limit our personal expression. These are residual thought-forms, both personal and cultural, that tend to make us do and think what we have become habituated to do and think. To be truly free we must liberate ourselves from these ghosts of the past.
Aquarius 22 (21° - 22°) A rug placed on the floor for children to play
General kindness of humanity.
Despite rumours to the contrary, people are unnecessarily, yet reliably kind.
There is great kindness in the world, and those of us strong in faith will look for it, and expect to find it, yet never forget to appreciate it fully and reciprocally. Some see the opposite and so find the opposite. During times of trouble we rarely know exactly how or when we will be supported, but trusting that it will all turn out right in the end is a very sound life strategy.
PS: To understand Sabian symbols better, it helps to see some idea unfolding. The Sabian symbol for Aquarius 21 - just before Aquarius 22 - is a woman disappointed in love...but of course this symbol is a metaphor for all sorts of disappointments.
PHASE 321 (AQUARIUS 21°): A DISAPPOINTED AND DISILLUSIONED WOMAN COURAGEOUSLY FACES A SEEMINGLY EMPTY LIFE.
KEYNOTE: The capacity to meet emotionally upsetting experiences in human relationships with strength of character and personal integrity.
