A meeting of the BRICS members will take place in Johannesburg, South Africa 22-24 August 2023. In this post we look at the chart for the April 20 solar eclipse that was placed very significantly on the Ascendant at Johannesburg and examine what challenges it presents.
The BRICS have emerged as a powerful alliance of emerging-market economies over the course of the 21st century. Comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa as their acronym alludes to, the group has increasingly become the bricks and mortar which supports the global economy. One aim of the BRICS is to use cooperation to reshape the global political and economic architecture to benefit them. Can it be a coincidence that the eclipse chart has Pluto having just entered Aquarius is on the MC at Johannesburg.
Pluto is the most distant planet from life on Earth. It is the horizon between worlds, between life and death, between what has been and what will be. He rules over the processes that take us from one cycle to the next, and brings significant, deep transformation to our lives.
Aquarius is represented by the symbol of the Water Bearer. It represents a collective, communal energy of sharing resources and making sure that everyone in our world is resourced and cared for. From its visionary realms, Aquarius stirs the winds of change and broadens our sight beyond our individual lives and experiences. Free-thinking and progressive, Aquarius is all about doing the greatest good for the most people.
The most powerful people will be those who work together and who value the lives, feelings, and experiences of others. Governments and systems that have worked against each other in the past can find common ground during this transit to forge new alliances for the future.
Internal political and economic instability and territorial disputes between India and China pose hurdles to the BRICS’s continued cooperation and growth. The Aries Solar Eclipse on April 20 makes a square with Pluto in Aquarius.. The regeneration of Pluto in Aquarius may require the BRICS members to shed past identities (Aries) for the larger purpose of group co-operation (Aquarius). The outcome of the South Africa summit will be closely watched as it will shape the future trajectory of the alliance and its role in addressing geopolitical challenges.
So why is the April 20 solar eclipse important now just when the BRICS meeting is about to take place. Well for one thing if we go by the rule that eclipses are triggered when planets over the eclipse degree, we find that the transiting North Node [29-28 Aries] will be moving over the eclipse in August and thereby act as a trigger.
Finally take a look at the chart for the First Quarter Moon of Aug. 24 at Johannesburg. The luminaries make a T-square with Saturn [4pi03] that aligns significantly with the meridian. The Sabian symbol for Saturn is a reminder of how commerce must be conducted.
