Astrology of the Tirupati laddu controversy

A FINGER POINTING IN AN OPEN BOOK

Tirupati laddu [1] or SriVari laddu is the laddu sweet offered as Naivedhyam to Venkateswara at Tirumala Venkateswara Temple in Tirupati, Tirupati district, Andhra Pradesh, India. The laddu is given as prasadam to devotees after having the darshan in the temple. The Tirupati laddu controversy is a political issue that involves allegations of animal fat being used in the making of the consecrated sweet. The TDP spokesperson claimed that a lab report confirmed the presence of beef tallow, lard, and fish oil in ghee samples from the Tirupati laddu. The Andhra Pradesh government and the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) have not officially confirmed the lab report. Sept 21

In this post we endeavour to understand the news from the chart of the Sun-Neptune opposition that not only occurred on the same day but which was also significantly aligned with the horizon at Tirupati presenting the polarity between Virgo (Sun) and Pisces (Neptune) with both square Jupiter, the planet we associate with organized religion.

In a previous post Sun-Neptune: Unveiling of Deceptions , I wrote:

Of all planets Neptune is adept at undermining things from within. In the material world he causes things to decay. And on the spiritual level he will eat away at everything we believe in by discrediting and casting doubt on all that we hold to be true and sacred. But Neptune cannot undermine if he did not at the same time hold before us some ideal to be contrasted with its faulty reality. If a true reality is to be appreciated and outwardly realized then a false reality must be shown up for what it is. When we truly come to understand Neptune, we may find that he is actually the revealer of reality.

Jupiter ruled Pisces is a the sign often linked to religion and religious devotees while the sign Virgo (Virgin) is linked to purity often in a negative and obsessive way. Notice how in the news, relgious devotees insist on the purity of the laddu.

Being the last sign of the zodiac Pisces represents the disintegration of all that was symbolized by the previous cardinal sign-Capricorn for which a good keyphrase is “organized structures”. The movement from Capricorn to Pisces is best visulaized as social structures breaking down under the weight of their crystallizations. In Pisces we must accept structural dissolution under the insidious power of Neptune, the modern ruler of Pisces. We must cling to no stability or no past greatness and stand un-moved while the structures built by religion or politics are shattered all around us.

In the opposite sign, Virgo, we face this need of repolarizing by learning discrimination best achieved through objective analysis (Lab reports here?) . By this we begin to get a new perspective upon all things society has enslaved us with- whether religion or political allegiances. With the power of Mercury ruled signs Virgo and Gemini we learn to criticize the most basic impulses of our personality, we must learn to stand alone and to rely only upon our own inner Voice. If we do not learn willingly to do this we may be compelled by events like the one in the news to re- examine our limited beliefs.

Despite his positive characteristics, Mercury was the Roman god of merchants, travelers, tricksters and thieves. Hermes/Mercury's relation to business survives in the word "mercantile". The news items [2] [3] tell us that unscrupulous merchants were involved in supplying "animal fat, instead of ghee," used in the consecrated sweets.

Finally we look at the chart for the lunar eclipse of  May 18, 1715 that took place just before “the practice of offering laddu to Venkateswara at Tirumala Venkateswara Temple started on 2 August 1715”[1] and was prominent for Tirupati since it was placed very significantly on the horizon. But why is this eclipse important now? Well for one thing transit Uranus - the planet associated with breaking from the past - is moving over the Sun and the South Node. And the Sabian symbol for the South Node is:

Sabian Symbols: Taurus 21 (20°- 21°) A finger pointing in an open book

This symbol refers to a state of SUBSERVIENCE TO COLLECTIVE/RELIGIOUS VALUES. A balance must be found between receiving guidance and self-determination through discernment.
