In South Korea, a radical feminist movement called 4B tries to completely reshape patriarchy by rejecting any kind of relationships with men. What made thousands of women make this life changing decision and what consequences does it have within Korean society? Jun 18, 2024

On 17 May 2016 with the Sun [26ta] conjunct the deadly star Algol, a Korean man stabbed to death a 23-year-old woman in a restroom in Gangnam, a rich neighborhood in Seoul. The 34-year-old suspect told police after his arrest that he had chosen a woman as his victim because he had felt “ignored and belittled” by women his whole life. The crime became known as the Gangnam Station Murder Case, sparked a series of protests and was one of the major contributing forces for the 2015-2016 feminism reboot in South Korea.
In the mundane horoscope of South Korea, we find the Moon in the 8th house conjunct the asteroid Amor. Traditional astrology relates the eighth house to crisis, hidden matters, anguish of mind and deadly fears [1]. With the Moon symbolising the feminine in the 8th we begin to understand why the Korean women are fearful.
Amor/Moon: The feminine (Moon) putting restrictions on love (Amor). Utter Acceptance vs. Having Limits and working out how to do this.
Here is the chart for South Korea’s lunar return for 21 June 2018 - just three days after the news report above. Uranus [25ta] is not only significantly placed square the horizon axis and in quincunx aspect to the Moon, it is also now beginning to move over the 17 May 2016 Sun position [26ta] and of course the deadly star Algol long associated with brutal murders and crimes against women.
Algol is beta Perseus depicted as Medusa’s head (see image). In mythology, Medusa was violated by Poseidon. And her angry visage with snakes coming out of her head depicts the vicious feminine that now refuses to participate in any productive relationship with the masculine.
Medusa’s petrifying gaze renders men immobile and lifeless, symbolizing the paralyzing effect that an unintegrated anima can have on a man’s psychological development through depression, anxiety, and distorted thinking. To overcome this paralysis, he must confront the anima and integrate her into the conscious psyche. In the myth of Perseus, the head is severed from the body so that the mystery of the monster may be put to use. By incorporating the Gorgon’s head into his arsenal, Perseus metaphorically assimilates the power of Medusa, integrating the darker elements of his anima into a protective, transformative force.
When viewed as the artifact of a psychic event in the collective unconscious, the myth may reflect the evolution of the father-bound virginal feminine principle. Athene sprang from Zeuse’s head, fully formed, and remained unfailingly loyal to him and the heroes he fathered.[as an example please read [2] - the story of the brilliant Iranian mathematician who died early] When confronted by the primal sexuality between the Chthonic Gorgon and the untempered Poseiden, Athene was outraged. She demonized Medusa, related to the ancient fertility goddesses, making her monstrous. Anyone who looked upon her, friend or foe, god or mortal, would be turned to stone, thus banishing her from consciousness. Athene patronized war as the strategic art of death, but Medusa’s killing power could not be controlled. With the help of Perseus, guided by Athene, Medusa was beheaded and placed on Athene’s shield and armor. Within the collective unconscious, raw, instinctive force imaged as Medusa was transformed into a symbol and reintegrated as an aspect of Athene—the father-bound daughter encounters her instinctive sexual power, splits, and banishes it, then reclaims it in symbolic form. From this perspective, the myth describes a symbolic process of disintegration and reintegration. https://thisjungianlife.com/symbolism_of_medusa/
In mythology, the Greek goddess Athena , trained by her father Zeus, symbolizes learning strategies required to please the father. This buries the woman in duties and life pursuits that damage the essence of the instinctive feminine. Uranus as the planet which stands for the principle of freedom and emancipation while transiting over the star Algol, Medusa’s frozen (approx Jun 24 - May 25) head offers the opportunity for women to free themselves from this role placed on them.
Finally, it may be noteworthy that the essay "The Laugh of the Medusa" by French feminist critic Hélène Cixous was published in 1975 and a later revised version translated into English in 1976 under the rays of the November 1975 total lunar eclipse that was conjunct Algol - Medusa’s head!
