Generally, eclipse lunar cycles mark a time of shifting into a new octave in the lunar spiral of growth. They offer a time to resynchronize ourselves with the ever-changing cosmic currents supporting our evolutionary progression in consciousness. The total lunar eclipse on Sept 7 [15pi] is being activated right now by Mars transiting over the eclipse.
The eclipse is conjunct Achernar, alpha Eridani, the bright star that marks the end of Eridanus, the River flowing into the Universal Sea (see image). Here it combines its influence with Ankaa, the alpha star of Phoenix, the bird which regenerates itself. This is, therefore, an area of endings and new beginnings. It frees humankind from outdated illusions and outmoded conventions of thought.
Lunar eclipses are relationship-oriented. The “crisis” that these eclipses tend to elicit is a crisis of lack–a time when we suddenly realize a great need or want. The impact of the crisis can act to sever a relationship–it’s possible. But it can also bring two people together with a sudden awareness of a great need for each other.
With the Virgo-Pisces service axis involved, this Lunar Eclipse presses us to look more closely at our needs, lacks, and wants. We are encouraged to find a balance between day-to-day functions and routines, physical health, and the need for order (Virgo) and vision, spiritual health, disorder, and the infinite (Pisces).
A crisis of sorts (which can be a crisis of consciousness) or sudden awareness of a lack in our lives provides us with a golden opportunity to explore our emotional needs. Perhaps we have been giving away too much, grinding away at a life that no longer makes any sense.
Our discovery is emotionally charged and dramatic. We become acutely aware of our lack. This understanding can propel us into affirmative action. This is a time to clear up past patterns that have been holding us back from personal fulfillment. We might open ourselves up to possibilities, examining the emotions that push to the surface.
As I said before the eclipse is conjunct Achernar, the end of the river - the place where the river flows into the sea. Symbolically that means giving up a limited life for one that is unlimited or fulfills our higher needs. Along with Achernar is Ankaa, the Phoenix bird that rises from its ashes!
