On 18 August 2026 a coalition of U.S. states opened the first federal trial against Meta, accusing the company of deliberately designing Facebook and Instagram to keep children and teenagers scrolling for as long as possible. The potential liability has been framed as high as $1.4 trillion. For mundane astrologers the timing is uncanny: the trial is unfolding under a rare and precise activation of Meta’s own founding chart.
The chart for the launch of the facebook.com — 4 February 2004, 12:00 EST, Cambridge, Massachusetts — shows a Sun–Neptune conjunction in Aquarius (Sun at 15°, Neptune at 12–13°) sitting as the apex of a T-square to the lunar nodes at 15° Taurus and 15° Scorpio. This is the signature of a collective vision (Aquarius) built on idealism, boundary dissolution, and the subtle mechanisms of addiction and illusion (Neptune), held in tension with issues of value, resources, and power (the Taurus–Scorpio axis).
Right now transiting Jupiter in Leo is completing a Grand Cross with that natal pattern. Exact opposition to natal Neptune falls on 28 August 2026; exact opposition to natal Sun follows on 8 September 2026. Jupiter at 12–15° Leo stands opposite the Sun–Neptune pair and squares both nodes, turning the original T-square into a full Grand Cross for several weeks — precisely while the trial is in full session.
Of all planets, Neptune is most adept at undermining things from within. If a true reality is to be appreciated and outwardly realized, a false reality must first be shown up for what it is. When we truly come to understand Neptune, we may find that he is actually the revealer of reality. The Sun square the nodes — the classic “Moon Wobble” configuration — is linked both to sudden instability and to the revealing of whatever has been suppressed or hidden.
Steven Forrest’s note on Neptune square the nodes is equally pointed: “Utopian idealism can sweep us into situations where the bottom falls out as soon as reality hits.” Neptune also rules addictions, illusions, false promises, and deception. Jupiter’s opposition expands everything it touches. Here it magnifies both the original Aquarian-Neptunian vision that built the platform and the consequences of its shadow side. As Martha Wescott put it: “People who built their castles on sand are discovering that the tide has changed (and that piddly little bump is where their fortress used to be).”
The trial itself is functioning as the reality principle that Neptune’s idealism eventually meets. Internal research, design choices, and data practices long kept from public view are being forced into open court under the exact geometry of Meta’s founding chart. Whether the outcome is a record penalty, forced redesign of core features, or a protracted appeals process, the celestial signature is clear: the vision that once promised to connect the world is now being measured against the concrete costs of that connection.
