An astrological reflection on Anthony Fauci, the prenatal eclipse, and the recent critique of scientific authority
In early August 2026, Jason Locasale’s essay “Anthony Fauci and the Collapse of Scientific Authority” circulated widely. The piece argued that Fauci had become the public emblem of a deeper institutional decay: the substitution of credentialed authority for scientific judgment, the protection of narrative over evidence, a biomedical gerontocracy, and a culture that rewarded image and institutional loyalty more than curiosity or accountability. Locasale’s central claim was not merely personal; it was systemic. Fauci, in this reading, was the most visible expression of forces that had been operating for decades.
Astrology does not prove such critiques, but it can illuminate the symbolic patterns that accompany them. When we examine the prenatal lunar eclipse of 16 October 1940 (set for Brooklyn), its Progressed Sidereal Solar Return to Fauci’s birth date of 24 December 1940, the chart of the first COVID vaccine administration, and Fauci’s own noon natal chart, a coherent degree-area and thematic story emerges.
The Prenatal Eclipse and Its Progression
The Appulse Lunar Eclipse of 16 October 1940 placed Neptune at 26° Virgo, angular and rising near a Virgo Ascendant. Neptune in Virgo has long been associated with epidemics, institutional medicine, pharmaceuticals, contamination, and the idealization—or dissolution—of health authority.
When this eclipse is progressed by the PSSR method to 24 December 1940, Neptune remains at 26° Virgo and forms a trine to Uranus at 25° Taurus, which sits on the Descendant. That Descendant degree falls under the fixed star Algol. Traditional sources, including Diana Rosenberg, link Algol with plagues, mass-mortality events, and extreme collective crises. On the Neptune side, 26° Virgo conjoins Alkaid (Benetnash) and Zavijava. Nick Fiorenza describes this late-Virgo region as one of “foul breezes and smoke screens,” diversionary tactics, and glamorous or grandiose façades large enough to distract the public from underlying realities—often involving corruption or hidden agendas at high levels. The same zone raises questions of discernment between genuine authority and egoic performance.
Thus the radical eclipse already carried an angular Neptune-in-Virgo signature of epidemic and institutional medicine. The progression activated it against Uranus and Algol on the public angle, suggesting sudden exposure, disruption of established structures, and the visible eruption of themes of mass health crisis and projected authority.
Echoes in the Vaccine Chart
The chart for the first COVID vaccine administration (8 December 2020, Coventry, UK) returns to the same late-Virgo zone. The Midheaven stands at approximately 23° Virgo—close enough to engage the Alkaid/Zavijava star field. Neptune is aligned with the meridian, and the Moon is in Last Quarter phase at 19° Virgo. The most public angle of the vaccine chart therefore reactivates the identical degree area that held the angular prenatal-eclipse Neptune. In mundane terms, the MC represents institutional projection and collective recognition; its return to this star zone is striking.
The Natal Signature
Fauci’s noon chart (birth time unknown) shows Jupiter at 5° Taurus square Pluto at 3° Leo. Transiting Pluto, recently at 3° Aquarius, completed a T-square. Steven Forrest’s characterization of hard Jupiter–Pluto aspects is pertinent: “Under Pluto and Jupiter, faith is embattled. What the Patterns Suggest
Taken together, the charts describe a life and a public career whose symbolism is tightly bound to:
- Angular Neptune in Virgo (epidemics, medical institutions, the fog and idealization of scientific authority),
- Its activation against Uranus/Algol (sudden collective crisis, exposure, the traditional “plague” signature),
- Repeated emphasis on the late-Virgo stars of façade, diversion, and the need for discernment,
- And a natal Jupiter–Pluto square now under long-term transit pressure that challenges the foundations of that faith and authority.
These patterns do not dictate moral character or prove any specific historical claim. They do, however, form a remarkably consistent symbolic backdrop for the very issues Locasale’s article raised: the gap between projected scientific authority and underlying institutional realities, the management of narrative, and the eventual public reckoning with what had been obscured.
What We Might Learn
The deeper invitation of this material is not about one individual. It is about the collective tendency to project omniscience onto human institutions and the figures who embody them. Neptune in Virgo can idealize the white coat and the credential; it can also dissolve the illusion when the gap between image and substance becomes too wide. Algol and the late-Virgo stars remind us that collective health crises often expose what was already fragile. Jupiter–Pluto confrontations ask whether the faith we placed in certain structures was rooted in reality or in comforting performance.
What the recent critique, and these charts, ultimately point toward is the recovery of scientific temperament itself: skepticism (including toward one’s own side), comfort with uncertainty, willingness to revise, and the separation of inquiry from the protection of status. Authority in science is provisional and earned through evidence, not conferred by longevity, media presence, or institutional power.
