Joseph Interprets Pharaoh's Dream
Palestinians have torched a Jewish holy site in the
West Bank city of Nablus, amid soaring tensions with Israel. Rioters set fire
to a tomb revered as that of the biblical figure Joseph. The site, where Jews
go to pray, was badly damaged. Oct 16. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-34547523
The current New Moon [19li] is conjunct TNP Zeus and opposite Uranus and
is in an area which Diana Rosenberg connects
with “religion and fires”. Uranus [18ar] is in tropical Aries and conjunct
stars of Cepheus and Fornax , the Furnace, making this a place of fires. In
addition, the TNP Zeus (fire) is
conjunct stars in degrees that the Liber Hermetis called “the Violence of
Fire”.
The New Moon
makes hard aspects to the horizon axis which carries a T-square containing Venus-Mars-Jupiter –Saturn-Neptune.
The Jupiter-Neptune combination is here clearly linked to a prophet (Jupiter)
who was known for his strange and vivid dreams (Neptune) [1]. In addition, Neptune [8pi] is conjunct
stars of the Chinese asterism Wei linked to tombs and graves.
And finally,
for stars conjunct Saturn [2sa] on the IC, Diana Rosenberg writes:
This is an area of night: the Serpent and
Scorpion, both denizens of the dark, hidden places, together with prowling
Lupus dominate these longitudes, barely held in check by struggling Ophiuchus…the
worst among those here are treasonous, treacherous and with Lupus’ wild, animal energies raging
underneath the surface, jealous, malevolent, brutal, evil-minded, murderous and
insane (truly representative of the head and claws of a scorpion and a hand
struggling with a serpent!). If the high road is taken, there is great power and potential for
bringing light to darkness. Shaman Ophiuchus has the power to summon up alternate worlds
of omens, portents and prophecies.
It would
appear that this extract from Diana Rosenberg applies to the life of the Prophet Joseph. He
was beloved of his father Jacob but hated by his step brothers who sold him off
to captivity as a slave in Egypt where he acquired fame as a prophet who could forsee the future through dreams. It is said that he was called by the
Pharaoh to interpret two disturbing dreams which Joseph interpreted as seven
years of plenty followed by seven years of famine. Joseph advised the
Pharaoh to begin the construction
of canals. Archaeological evidence
points to the fact that between 1850 and 1650 BC (the period associated with
Joseph) a canal was built to keep the
branches of the Nile permanently open, enabling water to fill Lake Quaran and
keep the land fertile. This canal was so effective that it still successfully
functions today.
Let us see if
we can spot two other elements of the story
in the stars, i.e. “famine and drought” and “lakes and canals”.
Neptune was definitely a god of springs, lakes and
rivers before becoming also a god of the sea, as is testified by the numerous
findings of inscriptions mentioning him in the proximity of such locations.
Servius the grammarian also explicitly states Neptune is in charge of all the
rivers, springs and waters [2].
If we
remember that Saturn as a symbol represents “scarcity” or “lack” while Neptune
is “water” we can also see a reference to a drought or famine in the chart.
