Franco-German unity falling apart?

The EU is to hold a vote on a revision of the Gas Directive that would let the European Commission gain leverage over the Russian-European gas pipeline project. Germany has resisted Brussels's attempt to revise the regulations and counted on France’s support amid their growing cooperation. One of the EU's pillars and Germany’s closest allies, France, has voiced opposition to Berlin-supported Nord Stream 2 ahead of the EU vote, which would impact the future the Russian-European pipeline project under which natural gas would be brought to Europe via the Baltic Sea and a hub in Germany. To understand why France is letting down Germany ,its long term  EU ally, we begin by looking at the chart for France. Regular readers will recall the following quote from a previous post [1]  on the Yellow Vest unrest.

In this chart the most powerful current direction is Pluto transiting through the 10th house opposite the Moon [21cn] in the 4th square the Ascendant (or cusp of 1st house) and the nodal axis. An opposition from the 10th to the 4th is  simply interpreted as the public vs the government. With Pluto involved we are seeing an outpouring of anger/rage from the public (Moon).

But let us go a little further. The Descendant or the 7th house cusp rules “allies” among other things. Transit  Pluto is squaring the horizon axis (Asc-Dsc). To understand what this means, given below is an extract from astrologer Hiroki.

Pluto is the god of underworld. As the governor of hidden depth in all things, Pluto represents hidden potentials, extreme passions (which are often repressed by society), and a perception that penetrates the darkness in all things – solving mysteries and unlocking new powers (think psychology and molecular physics). Ascendant is your persona – the mask your wear and show to the world. Your name and all that it represents to you. Because it always opposes the Descendant (the 7th house cusp), Ascendant represents what others (your partner, friends, the public) will see and identify as your unique personality.

Transit or Natal Pluto conjunct, square or opposite Ascendant can suggest the need for the mask to break at one point, so that a different identity can emerge, perhaps one that reflects more of your inner truth. Relationships that cannot accommodate our emerging new self are often irreparably broken.

In the last few days, transit Mars went over France’s Ascendant triggering the slower moving Pluto to Ascendant transit with the result that France is letting down its ally Germany.

Going one step further we look at the Davison Relationship Chart between France and Germany [2][3]. Progressing the solar return chart by the Wynn Key method to the current period we have the Mars-Pluto-Uranus-Node T-square aligned with the horizon. One manifestation of Pluto-Uranus is a sudden emergence (Uranus) of long hidden or suppressed traits (Pluto). Between friends (Uranus) it can show up as a power struggle (Pluto). Someone can feel threatened fearing loss of control (Pluto) when another  person acts independently (Uranus).
