Mars – Saturn and the war on Armenia

Mars – God of War

On Sunday Ilham Aliyev, the longtime dictator of Azerbaijan, launched a war on the Armenian held Nagorno-Karabakh area. That he dared to do this now, 27 years after a ceasefire ended a war over the area, is a sign that the larger strategic picture has changed. https://www.moonofalabama.org/2020/09/strategic-aims-behind-the-war-on-armenia.html#more

In mundane astrology, the affairs of a nation are judged primarily from the horoscope set up at the time of its official inauguration.  The horoscope of Azerbaijan is provided by  Nicholas Campion, "The Book of World Horoscopes." [1] Based on this data here is the progressed solar return for Sep. 27, the date when Azerbaijan, launched a war on the Armenian held Nagorno-Karabakh area.

Notice the very significant alignment of the Jupiter-Saturn-Pluto with the Ascendant making a square to Mars in Aries.

In a previous post [2], I wrote:

Mars is currently  transiting through its own sign of Aries. Here it is extremely dynamic and will dominate the second half of 2020, especially during the retrograde phase from September 9 to November 13 (28°08ʹ–15°14ʹ Aries).

Mars retrogrades approximately every two years, but it rarely does so in the sign of Aries. It happened last in 1988 and won’t occur again until 2067. This year Mars will be much more powerful than it was in 1988, when it was not making hard aspects to any of the outer planets.

These powerful transits are all linked to clashes concerning the use and abuse of power. This is one of the major themes of the Saturn–Pluto conjunction in Capricorn, and it is now being challenged by the squares from Mars. It’s possible that people will become much more assertive in response to abuses of power at this time. This entire retrograde period may be forceful, divisive, and inflamed.
