SABIAN SYMBOL FOR TAURUS 24°
The emigration of White South Africans, particularly Afrikaners, has been a notable trend in recent years, driven by a combination of socioeconomic, political, and safety concerns.
Recent developments like the Expropriation Act [1], Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) [2], ongoing crime issues, and affirmative action policies have contributed to feelings of insecurity or marginalization among some White South Africans, prompting a minority to emigrate. However, claims of targeted persecution are largely unsubstantiated, and many White South Africans remain committed to staying.
The Union of South Africa occurred on 31 May 1910, but this "incarnation" of the nation was not yet truly independent, nor did it reflect the will of the majority of its people. On 27 April 1994, under a powerful opposition between the Sun in earthy, tenacious Taurus and Jupiter in intense, passionate Scorpio, the new multi-racial constitution came into effect,[3] promising an end to nearly four centuries of suffering, violence, inequality, and exploitation.
This birth horoscope, with its conjunction of the Moon and Pluto in Scorpio, subtly portrays the dark inheritance of the past, which at the same time contains enormous possibilities for transformation and renewal. For some time the transits of Uranus and Neptune, making difficult aspects to these planets placed in Taurus and Scorpio in the national chart, have described a situation of both extreme tension and enormous creative possibilities. [4]
In her essay on the horoscope of South Africa [4], Liz Greene mentions the conjunction of Moon - Pluto both as a dark inheritance with enormous possibilities of transformation. This combination has been receiving an opposition from transit Uranus in Taurus since 2024 which will last upto 2026
A Uranus transit over Moon-Pluto symbolizes a major upheaval in the populace. With South Node in Taurus (land) opposite Moon-Pluto in Scorpio (quarrels over joint resources), it is easy to see the nature of the upheaval brought about by the Uranus transit over the S.Node (patterns of belief to leave behind) in Taurus. It may be interesting to note here that in Israel’s chart the radix Sun [23ta39] and South Africa S.Node [23ta48] occupy the same degree in Taurus and both seem to share the same problem of how to share land with their neighbours! And that is not all. The Sabian symbol for this degree is so meaningful for both cases!
Sabian Symbol: Taurus 24 (23°- 24°): A mounted Indian with scalp locks
During early stages of development it remains crucial to establish identity, of self and tribe, by fighting for it if needed. Those who are foreign to each other are often fearful and feel threatened by the other.
Finally here is the current solar return chart for South Africa. Notice that it carries the powerful Mars-Pluto opposition symbolizing a power struggle forming a T-square with apex Sun in Taurus in the 4th (land).
[1] The Expropriation Act, which allows the government to seize land without compensation under specific conditions, such as when land is unused or not being developed. This law aims to address historical land ownership disparities from the apartheid era, where White South Africans, who make up about 7% of the population, own roughly 72% of privately owned farmland.
[2] Post-apartheid policies like Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) and affirmative action aim to address historical inequalities but have led some White South Africans to feel marginalized in employment and economic opportunities. These policies prioritize Black South Africans in hiring and business ownership, which some White individuals perceive as discriminatory.
