Commitment and Freedom: Can Couples Have It Both Ways?

Think living together is the only way to have a serious relationship? Think again. A quiet revolution is happening in the world of love, and it’s turning everything we thought we knew about relationships upside down. More couples are choosing to live apart, and they’re not just surviving – they’re thriving. Dec 22, 2024 https://rollingout.com/2024/12/22/living-apart-together-relationship/

The astrological transit of Pluto into Aquarius, beginning November 19, 2024, and lasting until 2043, is believed to signal a period of social transformation, particularly in how relationships and communal living are structured, emphasizing freedom, innovation, and unconventional ideals. Feedom-loving couples are exploring new ways of living together, specifically focusing on the trend of "Living Apart Together" (LAT) and other non-traditional relationship dynamics.

Astrologers believe that the cosmos is fueling this evolutionary pressure so that even a chart cast for the moment that an article like the one above is published, there will be planetary indications of its contents.

Presented here is the chart for the Last Quarter Moon (LQ) at Atlanta, Georgia from where the article was published. As always planetary combinations aligned with the horizon or meridian are the ones which carry a special message, when interpreted properly. Two combinations stand out. (a) The Quarter Moon - Neptune - Nodes T-square straddling the horizon (b) the Jupiter-Saturn waxing square aligned with the meridian.

Neptune conjunct the North Node brings up thoughts of idealistic associations while the Quarter Moon straddling the Nodes ( “Moon Wobble”) throws up contents of the unconscious that have been festering creating instabilty in personal lives that may force us to prioritize independence in relations.

Transiting North Node in Aries/South Node in Libra

Some relationships become toxic and we need to let them go. Sometimes, we sacrifice who we are in order to stay in relationship with other people. The south node in Libra has been wanting to let this go. The north node in Aries has been hungering to feel confident, independent, take risks and initiate new beginnings. https://tinyurl.com/3br8rdda

Next we look at the Jupiter (Gemini) - Saturn (Pisces) waxing square aligned with the meridian. A waxing or First Quarter square is referred to as “crisis in action”. Lynn Bell in her essay Saturn in Pisces - Dissolving Boundaries writes:

In Pisces, Saturn loses its footing, its certainty. The maps we formerly used to navigate the world may no longer apply.... the old rules crumble, and the new ones may be hard to grasp. We are asked to take a leap of faith and develop other forms of perception as the boundaries shift and change... but we may not yet know where we are going. Saturn asks us to enlarge and encompass more. We can feel frightened when our boundaries lose solidity but Jupiter can provide the faith to overcome fears and move into new territory.

If now we put the two combinations (a) and (b) together may they not be asking us to dissolve boundaries ...to better balance independence and commitment, emphasizing the need for creativity in redefining autonomy within relationships. negotiate space for individual pursuits without sacrificing intimacy, a concept resonant with Pluto in Aquarius themes. (Note Pluto[0aq] is trine Moon [1li])

To experience life as rich and fulfilling, we all need a proper mix of independence and affiliation. Lacking this balance, in a close relationship we’ll feel trapped and constrained. Or, if we’re insufficiently attached to anything outside ourselves, we’ll feel, well, trapped and constrained—deep within our too-insulated self. In neither instance are we likely to feel complete or happy. Moving from the constraints of social convention may often require the breaking of established rules that are considered taboo.
