Kaja Kallas in Brazil

On September 19, 2025, Kaja Kallas, the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy since late 2024, made her first official visit to Latin America, traveling to Brasília, Brazil.During her visit Kallas countered Trump's "America First" protectionism. If Trump slaps 20% tariffs on EU goods, the EU can pivot south, reducing reliance on the US market. In her press remarks she explicitly contrasted this need for openness rising from global barriers—a veiled nod to Washington without naming it.

Readers will notice that the transiting Mars-Pluto square falls sharply in aspect to the EU chart’s meridian.

“So it's important that we think about Mars as a cutting or severing or separating process that can really serve and facilitate individual definition and individual growth or separation from various categories that we come to recognize are not us. They're not individually unique enough.

So anytime that Mars hits Pluto, one of the things that tends to happen is very powerful moments of individualizing catharsis take place. They can feel very empowering, but also, as we all know, many moments of individuating happen through crisis and confrontation and power struggles and having to take strong actions to define ourselves apart: I'm not you. I'm not this. I'm not that”. https://nightlightastrology.com/mars-square-pluto-september-2025/

In addition, the news can serve as an example of a good response by the EU to the total lunar eclipse of September 7, 2025 which was significantly placed on the horizon at Brussels. Steven Forrest explains what the eclipse is demanding of us with the South Node in Virgo.

The bedrock of evolutionary astrological theory: the south node of the Moon represents the gravity of old habits which are holding us back, while the north node symbolizes the remedy that can liberate us. We can go further. Virgo is often seen as “the sign of the servant.” There are beautiful dimensions to that symbolism, such as the urge to be competent at something that is helpful to other people. But as ever, there is a dark side to that same symbolism as well. To be “a servant” is to be placed in a subordinate position. Someone is giving us orders. Some social structure is holding us down. In a prior life, was your existence ever defined by other people’s decisions? Were you treated as a utility rather than as a person?
