When the Serpent Coils: SCOTUS, the White House Ballroom, and the Mars-Saturn Square of August 31, 2026

On Monday, August 31, 2026, two seemingly unrelated events unfolded under the same sky. The U.S. Supreme Court issued a 5-4 ruling allowing construction of President Trump’s controversial White House ballroom to continue. The same day, after a long pause, the United States conducted military action against Iran. Both events occurred under a potent Mars-Saturn square, with transit Mars exactly conjunct the Sibly (U.S.) Sun.

The charts tell a remarkably coherent story.

The SCOTUS Event Chart

Set for 21:19 UT in Washington, D.C., the chart shows Venus at 23° Libra in the 9th house (judiciary, higher law) exactly opposite the Moon at 23° Aries. On the Hamburg 90° dial, Venus sits at the midpoint of Mars and Pluto — a classic signature for the release of deeply repressed instinctual or power-driven energy into a form that can be socially or aesthetically expressed.

 

 

Venus in the house of the courts effectively “softened” and authorized a forceful, transformative project. The opposition to the Moon placed the collective emotional body (the people, the “People’s House”) in direct tension with that judicial decision.

Trump’s Natal Chart Connection

Transit Venus at 23° Libra formed a near-exact trine to Trump’s natal Sun at 22°55′ Gemini and TNP Vulcanus at 21°11′ Gemini. Vulcanus intensifies the solar principle into something volcanic and hard to contain. The Sabian symbol for the degree of transit Venus (Libra 24°) reads: “A butterfly with a third wing on its left side” — an unexpected new capacity appearing on the instinctual, heart side of consciousness.

The Gemini degrees surrounding Trump’s Sun and Vulcanus form a clear developmental sequence:

• Gemini 21°: “A tumultuous labour demonstration” — organic functions making collective demands on the ruling intellect.
• Gemini 22°: “Dancing couples in a harvest festival” — the wholesome enjoyment of organic processes and emotional drives. (The ballroom itself.)
• Gemini 23°: “Three fledglings in a nest high in a tree” — the new form beginning to support integral development.

The middle degree lands squarely on the purpose of the structure under legal dispute.

The Sibly Overlay and Mars-Saturn

On the same day, transit Mars at 13° Cancer was exactly conjunct the Sibly Sun while squaring transit Saturn at 13° Aries. Using whole-sign houses for the Sibly chart (Sagittarius Ascendant), Saturn occupied the 5th house of creative expression, pleasure, and performance, while Mars and the natal Sun occupied the 8th house of transformation, shared power, and the destruction of old forms.

As Linda Reid notes, creative instincts (5th) struggle with destructive forces (8th). The urge to create may require the demolition of fixed patterns. Reinhold Ebertin’s keywords for Mars/Saturn — “harmful or destructive energy; inhibited or destroyed vitality” — describe one pole of the aspect. The other pole is the hard-won authorization of instinct by traditional authority.

The Sabian symbol for Saturn at Aries 14° is especially revealing: “A serpent coiling near a man and a woman.” The serpent is pure life-force, kundalini, sexual-creative-instinctual energy. It is present, potent, and close to the human couple (relationship, polarity, the social contract), yet not fully integrated. The question the symbol poses is whether this energy will be recognized and given conscious form, or whether it will continue to operate from the unconscious.

Two Faces of the Same Energy

On August 31 the serpent expressed itself in two ways simultaneously:

1. Through the SCOTUS ruling, the energy received formal permission to move into a structured public space designed for dancing, celebration, and large-scale instinctual expression. The old East Wing is cleared (8th-house transformation) so a new stage can rise.
2. Through military action, the same Mars-Saturn tension discharged outward as force after a period of restraint — the classic expression of inhibited vitality finding an aggressive outlet.

In both cases the underlying theme is identical: a powerful instinctual current has become unavoidably close to the collective field. The only open question is the quality of its expression.

What These Energies Mean for You

The Mars-Saturn square of late August 2026 (and its longer cycle) is not merely a national signature. It is a personal invitation.

Whenever Mars and Saturn form hard aspects, two possibilities stand side by side:

• The creative or instinctual drive meets internal or external restriction and turns destructive, bitter, or self-sabotaging.
• The same drive meets disciplined structure and becomes enduring achievement, craftsmanship, or authorized expression.

The serpent is already coiling near. You cannot pretend it is not there. The work is to notice where life-force, desire, anger, or creative hunger has been repressed or forced underground, and then to decide whether it will be given a conscious channel — a “ballroom” of appropriate form — or whether it will continue to strike from the shadows.

The charts of August 31 suggest that permission for more embodied, celebratory, and instinctually honest expression is available. The cost of refusing that permission is the familiar pattern of eruption after long inhibition. The opportunity is to become the couple who finally sees the serpent clearly and chooses, deliberately, how to dance with it.

Jung saw the expulsion from Eden not primarily as a moral catastrophe but as the necessary rupture that allows the human being to become an individual. In the unbroken paradise of unconscious unity there is “no struggle and therefore no development.” The serpent’s temptation is the call of the repressed life-force that forces consciousness to awaken. By eating the fruit, Adam and Eve leave the state of collective, undifferentiated participation and enter the hard, lonely, creative work of becoming conscious persons — the beginning of the individuation process.
