A Hippo napping underwater
On 27 August 2026 a partial lunar eclipse occurred with the Moon at 4°54′ Pisces, tightly conjunct asteroid Diana and near the North Node. Fixed-star lore for those early degrees of Pisces (Enif, the nose of Pegasus, and Ancha in the chest of Aquarius) has long been associated with breathing difficulties and the danger of drowning.
At the same time square to the eclipse, Uranus and the Trans-Neptunian Admetus stood together in early Gemini amid stars of Eridanus, the Celestial River—degrees Rosenberg links to chest and lung themes. Gemini, of course, rules the lungs and the mechanical act of respiration. The combination paints a vivid picture of an innovative, almost automatic method of managing breath under constraint—exactly the solution nature has given the hippopotamus, which can sleep underwater and surface for air without fully waking.
When that eclipse chart is progressed by the PSSR method to the moment and place of a widely shared video [1] of a hippo family napping underwater, the Ascendant falls at 24° Cancer, conjunct the bright star Procyon at 26° Cancer.
Procyon carries two ancient titles that suddenly become luminous in this context. The Babylonians called it Kakkab Paldara, the “Star of the Crossing” (or “Star of the Crossing of the Water-dog”), referring to its position near the Milky Way, the great River of Heaven. In Chinese astronomy it belongs to the asterism Nan-Ho, the Southern River. Thus the rising degree of the progressed chart is marked by a star of river-crossing.
Nick Fiorenza further notes Procyon’s close relationship with Pollux, one of the Gemini Twins. Pollux is the immortal twin, the ambassador and link between worlds; Castor is the mortal twin. Together they embody the necessity of alliance—hand-in-hand participation in the evolutionary journey of the soul. Procyon’s conjunction with Pollux therefore suggests that the successful “crossing” is not accomplished alone. The individual (or the animal, or the collective) must ally with others to complete the greater purpose.
Seen as a whole, the eclipse and its progression describe a precise symbolic sequence:
- the threat of respiratory failure or drowning (Mars-Saturn + early Pisces stars),
- the innovative physiological solution of controlled breath-holding (Uranus-Admetus in the River Eridanus),
- the animal that lives this solution (Diana),
- and finally the successful crossing of the great water, made possible by alliance (Procyon with Pollux on the PSSR Ascendant).
The hippo becomes a living emblem of the teaching: by mastering an unconventional way of breathing, and by remaining part of its family group, it can dwell safely in the river. The sky, it seems, noticed the same lesson on the day the video circulated.
