Astrology sometimes reveals connections that ordinary observation misses. As Dennis Elwell put it: “Astrology embodies a system of new categories that are different from the ones to which we are habituated. In this system objects and events that at first sight appear to have nothing whatever to do with each other are shown to be intimately connected.”
In early October 2026 an RT report highlighted a striking development across Russia: the country’s brown bear population has more than doubled over the past three decades to around 307,900 animals. Authorities recorded 59 attacks so far that year, resulting in 21 deaths and 38 injuries across 22 regions—well above the typical 20–30 incidents of recent years. An independent project named WhereBear began mapping sightings, tracks and attacks on an interactive map of the country. Officials discussed possible new measures, extra federal funding for affected regions, and even the option of removing brown bears from certain hunting-limit lists. In Krasnoyarsk Region alone, six people died in September, prompting a criminal negligence case.
At first glance a wildlife crisis and the birth chart of the modern Russian Federation appear unrelated. The symbolism, however, is remarkably precise.
Russia’s natal chart (25 December 1991, 17:20 UT, Moscow) has its Ascendant at 21° Leo 09′. This degree sits tightly conjunct Merak (β Ursae Majoris) at approximately 19° Leo 19′—one of the key stars of Ursa Major, the Great Bear. Stellar astrologer Diana Rosenberg linked the stars of this constellation with bears and, at times, with bear attacks or encounters involving large predatory mammals.
On 12 August 2026 a total solar eclipse occurred at 20° Leo 02′, falling almost exactly on Russia’s Ascendant and within orb of Merak. Eclipses on the rising degree of a national chart often coincide with heightened visibility around questions of identity, self-image and the nation’s public face. Here the eclipse activated both the Ascendant and the stellar signature of the Great Bear.
By 4 October 2026, when RT published its overview, transiting Jupiter had reached 20° Leo and stood precisely on the Descendant of the report’s own chart (cast for 13:40 UT, Moscow). Jupiter amplified the eclipse degree and rendered it angular in the media moment that brought the story to wider attention. At the same time this Jupiter squared Russia’s natal Pluto at 21° Scorpio in the fourth house.
Reinhold Ebertin’s combination of Jupiter/Pluto directed to the Ascendant describes concentrated will, organisational talent, fanatical aims and a strong drive for power or national advancement. The Sabian symbol for Scorpio 22°—“Hunters starting out for ducks”—adds another layer: the recognition that an aggressive survival instinct cannot easily be discarded, and perhaps should not be.
The sequence is coherent. An eclipse on the Ascendant–Merak axis signalled that the “Great Bear” theme would become visible. Jupiter’s later arrival at the same degree, angular in a major news chart and squaring natal Pluto, expanded the issue into public discourse and into the apparatus of state response—funding, regulation, mapping projects and discussion of culling. The literal increase in bear attacks and the symbolic activation of Ursa Major in the national chart are shown, through astrology’s categories, to be intimately connected.
In mundane work such correspondences do not “cause” events; they reveal the qualitative pattern in which events unfold. Russia’s confrontation with its expanding bear population (as well as its recent fierce response to the "rogue" terrorist attacks by Ukraine) offers one more illustration of how the heavens and the earth can speak the same symbolic language.

On why ignoring dharma leads to “accidents”
https://javed22.blogspot.com/2026/01/on-why-ignoring-dharma-leads-to.html
In recent months Ukraine’s terror attacks on Russia had increased dramatically. I see it as ia result of Russia ignoring dharma as framed in my earlier post (above). The Sabian for Russia’s natal Pluto at Scorpio 22° — “Hunters starting out for ducks” — speaks of the necessary activation of the aggressive survival instinct, the organised pursuit of a target, and the readiness to use force when the situation demands it. “General Armageddon” Army General Sergei Surovikin’s appointment and the subsequent shift to more systematic, high-intensity strikes can be read as a concrete expression of that degree’s demand for decisive (even ruthless) action when earlier, less aggressive approaches had not produced the desired results. In the language of the symbol, the “hunters” were finally sent out.
