A train has derailed in north-western Spain , killing at least 77 of its 218 passengers and injuring more than 100, officials in the Galicia region say. All eight carriages of the Madrid to Ferrol train came off the tracks near the city of Santiago de Compostela . Media reports say the train may have been travelling at more than twice the speed limit around a curve. Officials have not commented on the cause. Analysts say it is the worst train accident in Spain in 40 years. Railway firm Renfe said the train came off the tracks on a bend about 3 or 4km (2-2.5 miles) from Santiago de Compostela station at 20:41 local time (18:41 GMT). US company Halliburton will plead guilty to destroying evidence relating to the 2010 Gulf Of Mexico oil spill. The plea agreement, which is subject to court approval, means Halliburton will have to pay the maximum possible fine. The spill occurred at BP's Macondo well in the Gulf of Mexico and was the worst in US history. The Deepwater Horizon drilling rig explosion took place on April 20, 2010 in the Gulf of Mexico, Louisiana , United States (28°44′N;  88°23′W). A chilling find has been made in Poland : at least 17 skeletons buried with the skulls severed and placed between the knees or hands. That, say archaeologists, is how vampires used to be interred, to stop them rising from the dead. Ten people were left with minor injuries after a plane's nose wheel collapsed when it landed at New York 's LaGuardia Airport , officials say. Six of the casualties were taken to hospital after Southwest Airlines Flight 345 skidded off the runway, said airport general manager Tom Bosco. The Scottish Government intends to hold a referendum of the Scottish electorate, on the issue of independence from the United Kingdom , on Thursday 18 September 2014 following an agreement between the Scottish Government and HM Government. The Referendum Bill, setting out the arrangements for this referendum, is likely to be put forward in 2013. The question asked in the referendum will be "Should Scotland be an independent country?"
