More than $1 million worth of jewels by Chopard were stolen from a Cannes hotel room Thursday after the safe was removed and taken, according to Nice police. The jewels were meant to worn by celebrities in town for the annual Cannes Film Festival, which is known to attract thieves, but Deadline reports the Chopard heist is one of the biggest in recent history. A video which appears to show a Syrian rebel taking a bite from the heart of a dead soldier has brought strong condemnation. Coal allocation scam or Coalgate, as referred by the media, is a political scandal concerning the Indian government's allocation of the nation's coal deposits to public sector entities (PSEs) and private companies by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. In a draft report issued in March 2012, the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) office accused the Government of India of allocating coal blocks in an inefficient manner during the period 2004–2009. The essence of the CAG's argument is that the Government had the authority to allocate coal blocks by a process of competitive bidding, but chose not to. As a result both public sector enterprises (PSEs) and private firms paid less than they might have otherwise. Amanda Berry, Georgina "Gina" DeJesus and Michele Knight were freed Monday night after Berry attracted the attention of a neighbor who helped her escape. A 6-year-old girl that police said is believed to be Berry 's daughter was also freed. "Help me, I am Amanda Berry," the young woman told police in a frantic 911 call from the neighbor's house. "I've been kidnapped, and I've been missing for 10 years. And I'm here, I'm free now." The suicide rate among middle-aged Americans rose 28% in a decade, a new report from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Altlanta Georgia has found. Among adults 35-64, white people and American Indians saw the sharpest increases from 1999 to 2010. The CDC did not investigate causes behind the trend, but noted many suicide prevention programmes were geared towards youths and the elderly. The report found no significant change among other age groups. Since 2009, suicide has claimed more Americans than motor vehicle crashes. There were 38,350 suicides in 2010, making it the nation's 10th leading cause of death, the CDC said .
